MIS: How do I view this week's attendance headlines?

Overview

This article explains how to view this week's attendance headlines for the whole school using the Attendance Dashboard. The dashboard shows a week-on-week comparison for each headline figure.

Instructions

From within Juniper MIS:

  1. Select Reports.
  2. Select Attendance.
  3. Select Dashboard and locate the Attendance Headlines widget:

Outcome

In the Attendance Dashboard, you can view this week's Attendance Headlines (as percentages) and compare them with those of the previous week:

The Attendance Headlines show:

  1. Attended - Percentage of pupils recorded as attending school (those pupils marked present).
  2. Authorised - Percentage of authorised absences (those absences that have been approved by the school).
  3. Unauthorised - Percentage of unauthorised absences (those absences that are unapproved).
  4. Total Absence - Percentage of all absences (authorised and unauthorised combined)

Additionally, you are presented a comparison of each headline figure from the last 7 days against the previous 7 days. Using this data, you can track trends more responsively. These are displayed under the main headline percentages with either a red or green call out and an up or down arrow:

  1. Red backgrounds indicate decrease in performance week-on-week, for example, when attendance drops, or absence increases.
  2. Green backgrounds indicate an improvement in performance week-on-week, for example, where attendance increases, or absence decreases.
  3. Up arrows indicate an increase in percentage week-on-week, for example, where the first week is 90% and second week is 100%.
  4. Down arrows indicate a decrease in percentage week-on-week, for example, where the first week is 100% and second week is 90%.

All percentages presented are calculated based on total sessions to date, for the school year. Each school day has two sessions per pupil; thus, a school with 200 pupils has 400 sessions daily, 2,000 each week, and, for example, at the end of week five, a total of 10,000 sessions. As updates are made to the data twice a day, the comparison period also moves forward twice a day, to give a rolling week-on-week view.
