Sonar Tracker
Overview
This article explains how to enter Key Stage 2 (KS2) Teacher Assessments for Writing and Science, and for Reading and Mathematics if pupils are below the test standard.
To view the DfE guidance on completing teacher assessments go to Key Stage 2 teacher assessment guidance 2026.
If you have received these in a CTF with the End of Key Stage 2 results from the NCA Portal we recommend importing them into Sonar Tracker.
Depending on the version of Sonar Tracker you are using - Which version of Sonar Tracker am I using?
refer to the following articles:
- For integrated Sonar Tracker, see MIS: How do I import a CTF?
- For stand-alone Sonar Tracker, see Sonar Tracker: How do I import Statutory Data into Sonar Tracker from a CTF?
Prerequisites
- You must have Minimal Edit or above permissions to enter or edit statutory assessment data in Sonar Tracker (to change a user's permissions, see Portal: How do I change a staff member’s role for a product?).
Demonstration
The following interactive guide shows you how to enter statutory assessment data in Sonar Tracker. Select the relevant data that you want to enter when prompted to see a step-by-step demonstration:
Instructions
To enter Key Stage Two Teacher Assessments using Sonar Tracker:
- Select Assessments.
- From the Statutory Assessments pane, select End of Key Stage Two:
- When prompted, select Year 6 and optionally, a Year 6 Class for whom you want to enter your teacher assessments:
- Select Open Assessment, the End of Key Stage Two input page opens for the selected pupils:
- Select Edit Assessment.
-
From Edit Assessment:
-
Optionally, change the Assessment Date if it is different to the one shown (by default this is today's date). Any information that you enter / edit will be assigned to the selected date.
You can only enter a date within the academic year the pupil sat the assessment. If you change a result later, for example, during a remark in Autumn 1 of the following academic year, only the academic year of the original assessment date can be entered. Sonar Tracker does this to stop results from being recorded against the wrong academic year.
- Select Start Editing.
-
-
Using the filters, select the subject (English, Mathematics or Science):
-
Enter each pupil's End of Key Stage Two teacher assessments in the appropriate cells as required:
-
Repeat Step 8 for each pupil / subject / assessment.
Tips
If you enter an invalid teacher assessment, a red message is displayed explaining that the value is incorrect:
Select the Information key to view the meanings of the different values you can enter (where codes, rather than scores are used):
See more information about the codes used in Statutory Assessments here - Sonar Tracker: What do the codes for recording Key Stage Data mean?
The Summary screen allows you to have an at-a-glance view of attainment across all subjects.
Outcome
The End of Key Stage Two teacher assessments are updated and saved.
