Sonar Tracker: End of Key Stage 2 Outcomes Report

Overview

This article provides an overview of the End of Key Stage 2 Outcomes report's purpose, guidance on accessing it, the various types of information it contains, and the different controls that help you customise what you see in the report.

Purpose

The End of Key Stage 2 Outcomes report lets you analyse the outcomes of assessments and test scores at the end of Key Stage 2 (end of Year 6). By default, when the report loads, you are presented with a summary of the Teacher Assessments and the SATs Test Scaled Scores for those pupils within the group. The information held in this report is useful for teaching staff, members of the Senior Leadership Team, and governors. It can be used for identifying those subjects where pupils are performing well / not so well and the key characteristics of those pupils. Furthermore, pupil names can be displayed. Select a name to drill down into the Single Pupil Overview report for the pupil.

The report comprises two views:

ClosedTeacher Assessment results and Test Scaled Scores view (default view)

The first table in the report displays Teacher Assessment across the selected Year Group for the various Assessment Subjects (Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Reading Writing & Maths combined). For each Assessment Subject, the percentage and number of pupils being assessed at each Teacher Assessment are displayed.

The second table in the report displays Test Scaled Scores across the selected Year Group. The number of pupils achieving the scores outlined in the various score ranges are displayed along with the overall percentage of pupils achieving within each range.

 

ClosedSummary view

This view displays how the group of pupils have performed across the various subjects (including Reading Writing & Maths combined). Each subject is displayed with in it's own series of tables - one for Teacher Assessments and one for the SATs Test Scaled Scores. These tables have the same columns as those used in the Teacher Assessment results and Test Scaled Scores view (default view). Where the tables differ is in terms of the rows. For each subject, the data is broken down into different characteristics, for example, All Pupils, Boys, Girls, Disadvantaged and Pupil Premium.

 

You can select whether to view pupil names in the report. By default, Scaled Scores (for tests) are displayed, but these can be hidden.

In this report, pupils with missing assessment data are included in the calculations. Any numerical counts or percentage calculations regarding pupil numbers include all pupils, regardless of whether they have assessment records.

Opening the page

After selecting the End of Key Stage 2 Outcomes report from the Reports page menu, you will be prompted to select which pupils you wish to include. Select one or more Year Groups and / or Classes then select Load Report:

Teacher Assessment

Column indicating the Teacher Assessment that the teacher has awarded pupil(s). In this example:

  • Other - Pupils assessment data is missing, for example, if a pupil was absent.
  • Below - Pupils assessed to be working below the level expected.
  • Pre-Key Stage - Pupils assessed to be working below the overall standard of national curriculum assessments, but who are engaged in subject-specific study.
  • Has Not Met - Pupils assessed as not having met the expected standard.
  • Working Towards - Pupils assessed as working towards the expected standard.
  • Working At - Pupils assessed as working at the expected standard.
  • Greater Depth - Pupils assessed as working at greater depth within the expected standard.
Teacher Scaled Scores

Columns indicating the Test Scaled Scores:

  • Other - Pupils scaled scores are missing, for example, if a pupil was absent for the test, or if the test conversion tables have yet to be released by the DfE (or programmed into the software).
  • < 100 - Pupils have achieved a scaled score of below 100.
  • 100 + - Pupils have achieved a scaled score above 100.
  • 110 + - Pupils have achieved a scaled score above 110.
  • Average - The average scaled score achieved by pupils who have taken the test.
Subject

The name of the individual Subject that the assessment results / test scores are being displayed for:

  • Reading.
  • Writing TA / GPS Test - Writing Teacher Assessment / Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Test.
  • Mathematics.
  • Science.
  • Reading, Writing & Maths - Where Reading, Writing and Mathematicssubjects are selected, the combined subject of Reading, Writing & Maths is also displayed. This shows those pupils who have achieved at the various Teacher Assessments / Test Scaled Scores for the three subjects combined.

Teacher Assessment / Subject cell

The percentage and number of pupils achieving the Teacher Assessment for the selected Subject.

The numbers and percentages shown are not cumulative.

Test Scaled Scores / Subject cell

The percentage and number of pupils achieving the Test Scaled Scores for the selected Subject.

The numbers and percentages shown are not cumulative.

Pupil

When Names is selected, the individual name of each pupil is displayed within the Teacher Assessment / Subject cell and Test Scaled Scores / Subject cell as applicable.

Pupil Characteristic

The different pupil characteristic groups that the results are displayed for. Each Pupil Charactistic is displayed as an individual row within each subject table:

  • All Pupils - The total number of pupils.
  • Boys - Pupils that identify as being a boy.
  • Girls - Pupils that identify as being a girl.
  • Disadvantaged - Pupils that have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point over the last six years, have been looked after continuously for at least one day in the last year, or have left care through a formal route such as adoption.
  • Not Disadvantaged - Pupils that are not Disadvantaged.
  • Pupil Premium - Pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium. Pupil Premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England.
  • Not Pupil Premium - Pupils that are not in receipt of Pupil Premium.
  • FSM - Pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). This is a program run by the UK Government to provide free school meals to pupils based their meeting of a set criteria.
  • Not FSM - Pupils that are not eligible for Free School Meals.
  • SEN - Pupils that have any Special Education Need (SEN) provision for example, they need support or have an Statement.
  • Education Health and Care Plan - Pupils that are categorised as SEN and have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in place. This is a document that defines the needs of a pupil whom extra supported is needed in school, beyond that which the school can provide.
  • Not SEN - Pupils that do not have any special education needs.
  • EAL - Pupils where English is an Additional Language (pupils who communicate in a primary language that is not English.
  • Not EAL - Pupils where English is their primary language, not an additional language.
  • Summer Born - Pupils who were born between 1 April and 31 August.
  • Leaver - Pupils who have been flagged as leaving the school.
  • Not Leaver - Pupils who have not been flagged as leaving the school.

Pupil

When Names is selected, the individual name of each pupil is displayed within the Teacher Assessment / Pupil Characteristic cell and Test Scaled Scores / Pupil Characteristic cell as applicable.

 

Controls

Control

Description

Select to refresh the contents of the report. This is particularly useful if you think that the data may have changed whilst you were using the report, for example, if someone else added new assessment data during the time you were viewing it.

Filters (1 Active Filter or x Active Filters)

The filters control indicates how many filters are currently applied to the data set. Select to contextually filter the pupils.

Academic Year

Select the Academic Year that you wish to use when you run the End of Key Stage 2 Outcomes report. By default, this will be set to the current Academic Year, for example, 2023-2024.

Subjects

Select the subject whose results you wish to view. By default, all four subjects are selected:

Where Reading, Writing and Mathematics are selected, when the report is refreshed a combined Reading, Writing & Maths subject is displayed.

Display Options

Check / uncheck the following to control how the report is presented:

  • Summary View - Check to view the report data by the various Pupil Characteristics.
  • Names - Check to view the names of those pupils achieving the Teacher Assessments and Test Scaled Scores.

By default, the following display options are checked (and displayed) when this report is run:

  • Summary View.

Pupil

When Names has been selected as one of the Display Options, select a Pupil within a Teacher Assessment / Subject cell or Test Scaled Scores / Subject cell to hide the pupil names for those individuals who the figures shown in that specific cell comprise.

Teacher Assessment / Subject cell

When Names is selected as one of the Display Options, select the percentage and numeric value within a Teacher Assessment / Subject cell to view the pupil names for those individuals who the figures shown in that specific cell comprise.

Test Scaled Scores / Subject cell

When Names is selected as one of the Display Options, select the percentage and numeric value within a Test Scaled Scores /Subject cell to view the pupil names for those individuals who the figures shown in that specific cell comprise.

Teacher Assessment / Pupil Characteristic cell

When Names and Summary View are selected as the Display Options, select the percentage and numeric value within a Teacher Assessment / Pupil Characteristic cell to view the pupil names for those individuals who the figures shown in that specific cell comprise.

Test Scaled Scores / Pupil Characteristic cell

When Names and Summary View are selected as the Display Options, select the percentage and numeric value within a Test Scaled Scores / Pupil Characteristic cell cell to view the pupil names for those individuals who the figures shown in that specific cell comprise.

PDF

Select to create a PDF version of the report. When created, the report is automatically downloaded to your device. To view the report in PDF format, locate and open the PDF file using either the built-in download functionality in your web browser or the file management tools on your device.
