Sonar Tracker: What happens to Sonar Tracker during the academic year rollover?

Sonar Tracker

Overview

This article explains what happens in Sonar Tracker during the academic year rollover and what you need to know to keep entering and viewing assessment data without interruption.

The guidance provided in this article is specifically for those schools who use a third-party MIS and sync to us using Wonde. If you use Juniper Education's MIS (you are not using Wonde to connect your pupil and staff data to Juniper Education), complete the end of year rollup process using the End of Year wizard (for further information, see MIS: End of Year Rollup).

How rollover works

If you use a third-party MIS, carry out your annual rollover in your MIS as normal. Juniper Education detects the updated data when your MIS is synchronised overnight through Wonde sync, and updates your academic year accordingly.

Key dates (Wonde sync users)

Date What happens
16th July 2026 Syncing of pupil and group data from Wonde will be paused. All other data will continue to sync from Wonde as normal. Sonar Tracker will still show your 2025 / 2026 groups at this point (for example, years and classes). However, any changes made to your pupil data (including groups) in your MIS will not be reflected until 3rd August 2026.
3rd August 2026 All Wonde-synced schools will automatically move into the new academic year (2026 / 2027) in Juniper Education's products. Wonde syncing of data will resume, updating pupils, groups and all related data for the new year. Sonar Tracker will default to showing 2026 / 2027 groups. You can still switch back to view 2025 / 2026 data. See the guidance in the next section if you want to view their data (which is still available in Sonar Tracker) from previous academic years.

Viewing data after rollover

After rollover, pupils are moved to their new year groups and classes in Sonar Tracker. To view last year's data you must select the year group that your pupils have moved into, for example:

  1. To view assessments for pupils who were in Year 6 (in academic year 2025 / 2026), select Year 7 as they have now moved up.
  2. To view assessments for pupils who were in Year 4 (in academic year 2025 / 2026), select Year 5.

Entering data after rollover

After rollover, if you need to enter or amend assessment data for the current academic year, you must do this in the year group that your pupils have moved into. For example, if you need to enter summative data for a pupil who was in Year 6 in the previous academic year (2025 / 2026), select Year 7 to find them and enter the data.

Unlike some other Juniper Education products, Sonar Tracker allows assessment data to be edited after rollover. This is particularly important for statutory assessments, where final results may need to be updated in September 2026.

Common questions

  • Yes, your school needs to carry out the annual rollover process in your MIS. If you're unsure of how to rollover your MIS, contact your MIS provider. From the 3rd August 2026, your rolled up groups will show in Sonar Tracker and your academic year will be updated to 2026 / 2027.
  • We will not be rolling over Sonar Tracker until the 3rd August, when we re-enable the Wonde Sync.
  • After rollover, pupils are moved to their new year groups in Sonar Tracker. To find a pupil from last year's class, select the year group they have moved into. For example, last year's Year 6 pupils (2025 / 2026) are now in Year 7 (2026 / 2027).
  • It doesn't matter if you have not rolled over by 3rd August 2026. When you do rollover, Wonde sync will rewrite your groups overnight. We recommend completing your MIS rollover as early as possible so that your data is accurate before the new term begins.
  • Yes. Sonar Tracker allows summative and formative assessment data to be entered and edited after rollover. If you need to enter data for the 2025 / 2026 academic year after rolling over to the 2026 / 2027 academic year, select the new year group that your pupils have moved into and use the academic filter to navigate back to academic year 2025 / 2026.
