Sonar Tracker: What happens to Sonar Tracker during the academic year rollover?

Sonar Tracker

Overview

This article explains what happens in Sonar Tracker during the academic year rollover and what you need to know to keep entering and viewing assessment data without interruption.

How rollover works

Rollover is triggered by your school, not by Juniper Education. How it works depends on which MIS you use:

  1. If you use Juniper Education's MIS, complete the end of year rollup process using the End of Year wizard (for further information, see MIS: End of Year Rollup).
  2. If you use a third-party MIS, carry out your annual rollover in your MIS as normal. Juniper Education detects the updated data when your MIS is synchronised overnight through Wonde sync, and updates your academic year accordingly.

There may be a delay of up to 24 hours before new groups appear after your rollover.

Juniper Education will not switch off the Wonde sync this year. This means rollover will be detected automatically whenever your school completes it in your MIS, with no set cut-off date for the sync. Juniper Education will not change your academic year without first detecting the new data from your MIS.

Key dates

Date What happens
Before 24th July 2026 If your school rolls over before the 24th July 2026, Sonar Tracker updates immediately when Juniper Education detects the change. Pupils move to their new year groups straight away.
From 24th July 2026 If your school has not yet rolled over, Sonar Tracker continues to show current year groups. Rollover is detected automatically whenever you complete it in your MIS.
31st August 2026 All schools move to 2026 / 2027 if not already rolled over.
From 1st September 2026 2026 / 2027 is the only active year. Pupils are shown in their new year groups.

Viewing data after rollover

After rollover, pupils are moved to their new year groups and classes in Sonar Tracker. Sonar Tracker does not currently have an academic year filter, so to view last year's data you must select the year group that your pupils have moved into, for example:

  1. To view assessments for pupils who were in Year 6 (in academic year 2025 / 2026), select Year 7 as they have now moved up.
  2. To view assessments for pupils who were in Year 4 (in academic year 2025 / 2026), select Year 5.

An academic year filter will be added to Sonar Tracker in a future update, making it easier to switch between academic years. For now, use the year group your pupils have moved into to access their previous data.

Entering data after rollover

After rollover, if you need to enter or amend assessment data for the current academic year, you must do this in the year group that your pupils have moved into. For example, if you need to enter summative data for a pupil who was in Year 6, select Year 7 to find them and enter the data.

Unlike some other Juniper Education products, Sonar Tracker allows assessment data to be edited after rollover. This is particularly important for statutory assessments, where final results may need to be updated in September 2026.

Common questions

  • Yes, your school needs to carry out the annual rollover process in your MIS. Juniper Education detects the updated data when your MIS is synchronised overnight through Wonde sync, and updates your academic year automatically after that. If you're unsure how to do this, contact your MIS provider.
  • Juniper Education detects MIS changes through a nightly sync, so there may be up to 24 hours before new groups appear. If you've rolled your MIS up and it's been more than 24 hours, contact us.
  • No. Unlike in previous years, Juniper Education will not be switching off the Wonde sync at a set date. Rollover will be detected automatically whenever your school completes it in your MIS.
  • After rollover, pupils are moved to their new year groups in Sonar Tracker. To find a pupil from last year's class, select the year group they have moved into. For example, last year's Year 6 pupils are now in Year 7.
  • Any school that has not rolled over by 31st August 2026 will be automatically moved to 2026 /2027 on that date. We recommend completing your MIS rollover as early as possible so that your data is accurate before the new term begins.
  • Yes. Sonar Tracker allows summative and formative assessment data to be entered and edited after rollover. If you need to enter data for the 2025 / 2026 academic year after rolling over to the 2026 / 2027 academic year, select the new year group that your pupils have moved into.
