Sonar Tracker: EYFS (2020) Target Analysis Report

Overview

This article provides an overview of the EYFS (2020) Target Analysis report's purpose, guidance on how to access it, the various types of information it contains, and the different controls that help you customise what you see in the report.

Purpose

The EYFS (2020) Target Analysis report lets you identify the progress your pupils are making compared to their targets either as a group or individually. This enables you to monitoring the progress your pupils make compared to their targets. Rapidly, you can determine who is on target, who is above target and who is not meeting their target. Following identification, you can put in place supporting interventions as appropriate.

When the report is run, by default, you are presented with a tabular and graphical overview for the selected group of pupils in Word Reading, Writing, and Number for the current Academic Year and the current Assessment Period. Each subject is broken into Target Bands (Below Target, On Target and Ahead of Target).

If you want to know which pupils are represented by the numbers select a value in the table and the cell will expand to show the names.

The key performance indicator at the top of the report gives a combined view of the currently selected subjects.

Where the selected group of pupils includes one or more pupils that have no assessment data associated with them in one or more subjects, a No Assessments band is displayed.

Under the overview table there is a more detailed table that lists each pupil, their target, their assessment result, and how they have performed compared to their target.

The report can be used across multiple Year Groups enabling you to quickly gain an overview of all EYFS groups of pupils on track.

Targets are individually set, with a view to them being appropriate to the potential outcomes for each pupil. They are different to Key Stage Outcomes. It is important to understand that pupils who are not on target cannot automatically be thought of as not on track to achieve Key Stage Outcomes, they're simply not meeting their current targets. If you want to know which pupils are on track (or not) to acheive their Key Stage Outcomes, use the Sonar Tracker: EYFS (2020) Age Related Overview Report

Opening the page

Description

Headline - On or Ahead of Target in all subjects

This headline figure gives the number of pupils (and percentage) who are either on or ahead of the targets set for them in all of the subjects that have been selected. The percentage is based on the total number of pupils selected who have assessment data (not the total number of pupils).

X Pupils

Difference

An indicator showing the pupil's Assessment result compared to their Target. The difference is represented both numerically and visually based on background colour of the cell and an icon as follows:

  • Green background with a green arrow indicates that the pupil's assessment for the subject is above their target. The numeric value indicates how many levels above their target they are performing (for example, where a pupil has a target of At, but is assessed at A, this will be 1)
  • Yellow background with a yellow tick indicates the pupil is on target for the subject (for example, where target and assessment is At). When a pupil is on target, the numeric value will be 0.
  • Red background with a down arrow indicates the pupil is not achieving their target for the subject (for example, where a pupil has a target of At, but is assessed at JA). In this instance, the numeric value will be negative. In the case of the example where the pupil's target is At but the pupil is assessed at JA, the value will be -1.
