Overview
This article provides an overview of the EYFS (2020) Quadrant report's purpose, guidance on how to access it, the various types of information it contains, and the different controls that help you customise what you see in the report.
Purpose
The EYFS Quadrant report lets you compare attainment and progress to ensure appropriate judgements are made that will help to inform potential interventions. A series of quadrants are used, one for each subject, to visualise the comparison. Each matrix within the report shows pupils based on whether they are working Below or AtAge Related Expectations as well as how they are making progress (either At, or Below expectations). Using this knowledge, teachers, headteachers and other members of the SLT can determine those groups of pupils within which subjects should be the focus of additional support, or other interventions as appropriate.
Looking at progress or attainment independently of each other could distort how a pupil is getting on. For example, a pupil working below their attainment expectations could be making accelerated progress. This would not be identified if only attainment were being considered. Similarly, a pupil could be working above their attainment expectations, but making poor progress. The EYFS Quadrantreport highlights these pupils by placing them in the appropriate quadrant:
-
Progress: Below Expectation / Attainment: ARE On Track (top-left). Pupils are making progress below expectation but are working at, or above, age related attainment expectations. These pupils, for example, may be coasting or have had a period of long term absence.
-
Progress: At or Above Expectation / Attainment: ARE On Track (top-right). Pupils are working at the expected rate of progress and are achieving the expected level of attainment or higher. These pupils are unlikely to be a cause for concern.
-
Progress: Below Expectation / Attainment: ARE Not On Track (bottom-left). Pupils are making progress below expectation and are working below age related attainment expectations. Pupils in this quadrant are those who are most likely to benefit from some additional support through intervention strategies or similar.
-
Progress: At or Above Expectation / Attainment: ARE Not On Track (bottom right). Pupils are making progress at or above expectations but are working below the expected age related attainment. These pupils are potentially closing the gap towards being at the age related expectation.
By default, when the report is opened, the results from the last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year, to the current Assessment Period are used to generate each quadrant. A quadrant is loaded automatically for the Subjects Word Reading, Writing and Number. These can be changed as required.
Select Names from the Display Options menu to see each pupil's assessment details for the two Assessment Period selected. This removes the needs to run another report to view the range of assessments.
In this report, pupils with missing assessment data are included in the calculations. Any numerical counts or percentage calculations regarding pupil numbers include all pupils, regardless of whether they have assessment records.
If there are gaps in a pupil's assessment data across the various Assessment Periods, those pupils are not included in the comparisons.
Opening the page
After selecting the EYFS Quadrant report from the Reports page menu, you will be prompted to select which pupils you wish to include. Select one or more Year Groups and/or Classes then select Load Report:
