Overview
This article explains how to create target-based EAPs for KS3/4 cohorts by uploading your Targets as baselines and creating EAPs with a flat line approach. These are useful if you are unsure what to use as your EAP Baselines.
Prerequisites
- You must be an administrator.
Instructions
To set up EAPs based on targets:
-
Extract your target grades comprising Student ID, Student Name, Qualification, and Grade information (in either broadsheet or list format) from your MIS. Save this in a Microsoft Excel-compatible format, for example, .csv, .xlsx, .xls or .xml.
See Sisra Analytics: Extracting and Preparing Grades or AtL Data (Admin) for further information on extracting and preparing targets.
- After you have downloaded your KS3/4 target grades from your MIS, upload them into Sisra Analytics:
- Select DATA.
- Select KS3/4.
- Select the Cohort.
- Select KS2 / EAP.
- Select Uploads.
- Select Upload Grade Files from the KS2 / Baseline Uploads window:
- Select an upload type (Broadsheet or Grade List).
- Enter the row that contains the qualification titles.
- Select Choose file, locate your file and upload it.
- Enter a File Title.
- Select Upload. For further information, see Sisra Analytics: KS3/4 - Preparing and uploading EAP Baselines (Admin).
-
If you've previously uploaded a file in this area, for example, official KS2 Baselines for KS3/4, Confirm Upload Qualification Names opens. Map each subject name to what was previously uploaded, or set them as New subjects. When configuring Target based EAPs for the first time in the cohort, select New for all subjects from the SISRA Qualification dropdown. This page doesn't open if this is the first file uploaded to the area.
For further information, see Sisra Analytics: What is the Confirm Upload Qualification Names page? (Admin).
After mapping all subjects, select Complete the Upload.
-
Follow these steps to set up your KS3/4 EAP Baselines:
- Select KS2 / EAP.
- Select Baselines:
- Select Edit:
- From the Baseline Management window, for each subject:
- Set the Grade Type to KS3/4 Method.
- Set the relevant Grade Method.
- Select Save Changes.
For more information, see Sisra Analytics: KS3/4 - Setting up EAP Baselines (Admin).
-
Follow these steps to create your EAPs:
- Select KS2 / EAP.
- Select EAP.
- Select Create EAP:
- Create your EAP:
- Check Create New EAP.
- Enter the EAP Name, and, optionally a description.
- Select the Baseline Type.
- Select the EAP Baseline for the subject you are creating the EAP for.
- Select the Assessment Method. This is the Grade Method relevant to each year/term for the subject. All years need an Assessment method selected, even if you aren't uploading grades for them:
- Select Create.
For further information, see Sisra Analytics: How do I create an EAP? (Admin).
-
After creating your EAP, the EAP Detail page opens. It comprises a grid with each grade in the Baseline column. These grades are those from the grade method selected for the baseline subject:
You must populate each term according to the baseline grade; for example, for students with a baseline of 5=, populate 5= in that row for each term (though you can set different expectations for each term if you wish to, leading up to their final target). Using this information, Sisra Analytics calculates whether the students with this Target are performing on, above, or below their target.
The fastest way to populate the EAP is to select Export EAP to export the table in Excel, edit each row, save it as CSV (MS DOS) format, and then select Import EAP to import this.
If you are using different assessment methods for different years, for example, a bespoke grade method for KS3, enter expected grades within that particular grade method. For example, when using an Above / On / Below grading structure at KS3, you can enter On for each row in each of the KS3 years/terms. For further information, see Sisra Analytics: KS3/4 - Editing and Defining EAP Pathways (Admin).
-
To speed up the process of creating EAPs for other qualifications that use the same grade method, copy the expected grades over from one EAP to a new one. For example, after creating an EAP for Art GCSE 9-1, copy it for each of your other GCSE 9-1 subjects.
When creating EAPs for new qualifications with different grade methods, create EAPs and populate them by repeating Step 3 and Step 4 above.
To create an EAP by copying an existing one:
- Select KS2 / EAP.
- Select EAP.
- Select Create EAP:
- Check Copy Existing EAP.
- Select the Cohort to copy from.
- Select the EAP to copy.
- Review the EAP Preview:
- Select Confirm.
- Enter an EAP Name and Optional Description, then select an EAP Baseline for up to 10 EAPs:
- Select Create, to copy the selected EAP along with the expected grades entered, creating your new EAPs.
You can copy EAPs from different cohorts if they use the same Baseline Type and Grade Method. See Sisra Analytics: How do I copy an EAP? (Admin).
-
After creating EAPs for each of your subjects, assign these to your qualifications. The Matching page will become accessible once at least one grades file has been uploaded.
- Select Grades.
- Select Matching:
- Select Edit.
- Select the EAP for each subject, along with the other values as appropriate:
- Select Save Changes.
For further information, see Sisra Analytics: KS3/4 - Completing the Matching Page (Admin).
- After your target-based EAPs are set up and assigned on the Matching page:
- Select KS2/EAP.
- Select Publish KS2 / EAP.
- Select Grades.
- Select Publish Grades.
Outcome
The target-based EAP is created.

Training
Looking for a little more guidance?
Our Sisra Consultants have designed a self-learning module for Sisra administrators and staff with responsibility for managing KS3/4 data within Sisra Analytics, or with the responsibility for managing the assessment processes within their school, who are looking to get the most value out of the EAP functionality. During this module, you will learn about:
- Understanding what an Expected Attainment Pathway (EAP) is.
- The impact of using populated EAPs in the reports.
- The benefits of using target based EAPs.
- How to create bespoke target based EAPs within Analytics.
After this feature is set up in your Sisra Analytics account, a member of the Sisra Consultant Team will log in, review your configuration, and provide recommendations. Follow the link below to find out more:
