Sonar Tracker: How do I set up or edit the Scores ARE for a test?

Overview

This article explains how to edit the Scores ARE for tests within your school for individual subjects and years. Scores ARE allows users to set the required standards of tests in use within a school for individual subjects and years.  They are linked to score ranges that set the possible range of test scores.

Only Admins can manage the Scores ARE for tests.

It is essential that both Scores - ARE and the Scores Ranges values are set up before entering and analysing your Test Scores.

Instructions - Video

The following video shows you how to add/configure Scores ARE in Sonar Tracker:

Instructions

  1. Select School.
  2. Select Scores ARE from the Assessment Settings widget:
  3. Select the Academic Year, Subject and Term to quickly select the Scores ARE to work with:
  4. Select Edit ARE to make changes to meet your needs following the guidance below:
    1. Score AREs are generally defined using scaled scores:

      • In the range of between 85 and 115 for KS1.

      • In the range of between 80 and 120 for KS2.

      • 100 is seen as meeting the required standard.

    2. As 100 is a single point value many users will choose to use the ARE range of 100 to 109. This means scores of 99 and below are highlighted as Below ARE and a score of 110 and above are highlighted as Above ARE.

    3. It is up to you to define what you feel is an appropriate ARE range.
    4. Typically, the range will be the same for each Subject, Year and Term but they can be customised as required.
    5. When adding or updating Scores ARE all fields must be completed.
  5. Select Update Scores Range.

Outcome

The Scores ARE for the selected Subject, Year, Term and Academic Year has been set.
