MIS: How do I find pupils with no register mark recorded?

MIS

Overview

This article explains how to find pupils with no register mark recorded for a selected date range, and how to add or bulk-fill marks directly from the same page. This is particularly useful when a class register has not been entered, for example, because of a school trip.

Missing marks in your attendance records can cause problems when completing a census or submitting attendance data to the UK government, so it is important to keep these up to date.

Instructions

To view the Absent & Late report in the MIS:

  1. Select Manage.
  2. Select Attendance.
  3. Select Missing Marks

Outcome

Missing Marks loads:

The report shows one row per pupil per date, so the same pupil can appear more than once if they have missing marks across multiple dates in your selected range.

Tips and Best Practices

  1. Check for missing marks regularly. The report defaults to today's date, so opening it each morning gives you a quick view of any gaps before the school day gets underway.
  2. Update marks without leaving the report by selecting any missing mark in either the AM or PM column to add a code directly. Once a mark is added, the pupil is removed from the table automatically.
  3. Use the Search bar to find a specific pupil quickly across a longer date range, rather than paging through the full list.
  4. Use the Columns and Filter options to focus the report, for example, filter by year group or class to work through missing marks in a structured way:

  5. Use the Bulk edit visible rows bar at the top of the table to apply a single code to all visible rows in one go (you can change the amount of rows showing using the selector at the bottom of the page). This is useful when a whole class register has not been entered, for example, because of a school trip.

To bulk-fill marks for a specific class, use Filter to narrow the table to that class first, then use Bulk edit visible rows to apply the code. Only the rows currently visible in the table are updated.

  6. Export the report using the Export button if you need to share a list of missing marks with a colleague.
