MIS: How do I create a new consent type to record parent consent?

Overview

This article explains how to add a new Consent Type for use when recording parental consent for a pupil. Before you can record and track a parental consent, the appropriate Consent Type must be set up.

Prerequisites

  1. You must have Full Edit, Account Admin or Account Owner to create Consent Types.

Instructions

Follow these steps to create a Consent Type from the MIS:

  1. Select Manage
  2. Select Consent Types.
  3. From Consent Types, select Create:
  4. From Create New Consent:

    1. Enter a suitable name for the Consent Type.
    2. Enter a short Description.
    3. Select Add pupils.
  5. From 1. Select from Pupil List:

    1. Use the Filters / Search as needed to find the pupils that you want to request consent for. These can be grouped by Year (default) or Class.
    2. Check the Year group, Class group and Pupils as appropriate for whose parents you are requesting consent. Expand the tree structure as required. If you want to request consent for all pupils, check Select all.
    3. Select Continue with x pupils, where x is the number of Pupils selected.
  6. From 2. Configure Consent Details:

    1. Change the Status as needed (by default this is set to Requested).
    2. Select Save

To change the Status in bulk, select the ellipsis to the right of the table, then select a value to Bulk Fill with (Granted, Not Granted or Requested):

Outcome

A message confirms the creation of the Consent Type. The Consent Type is added to the bottom of the list:

The Consent Type is now available for requesting and tracking an individual pupil's consent from their pupil record. See MIS: How do I request / update parental consent data in a pupil's record? for further information.

Select a Consent Type record in the Consent Types list to view its Basic Details, including the number of pupils where consent has / hasn't been requested, and the number of pupils where parents have granted / not granted consent, as shown in this Swimming Lessons Consent Type example:

To view a list of pupils and the status of their associated parental consents, select Pupils:

From this window, you can also request and track consent for additional pupils. See MIS: How do I update consents for one or more pupils?
