Sonar Tracker: How do I use formative assessment to inform summative assessment?

Formative assessment recorded for an assessment period in Sonar Tracker can be used in conjunction with other formative assessment records, for example, test results, classwork and observations to determine whether you think a pupil is below, just at or secure when recording their summative assessment. Formative assessment in Sonar Tracker should not be used in isolation to determine the outcome.

To record summative assessments in Sonar Tracker:

  1. Open two web browser tabs.
  2. Log in to Sonar Tracker in both tabs.
  3. In one tab, open the formative assessment data entry page (see either Sonar Tracker: How do I enter EYFS formative assessments? or Sonar Tracker: How do I enter primary formative assessments?)
  4. In the other tab, open the corresponding summative assessment data entry page (see either Sonar Tracker: How do I enter EYFS (2020) summative assessments? or Sonar Tracker: How do I enter primary summative assessments?).
  5. Switch between tabs to use the formative assessments recorded in Sonar Tracker (with any other formative assessment records you've kept elsewhere) to determine each pupil's summative assessment.

Use the Primary Triangulation of Data Analysis Report to review and compare your summative, formative, Statutory and test outcomes together.
