Overview
This article summarises the Summative against ARE view in the Subject Overview report, detailing its purpose, the information it includes, and the controls for customising the report display.
Purpose
The Summative against ARE data analysis views of the Subject Overview report gives you the ability to compare the selected pupils' Summative Assessment outcomes for the selected Subject with Age Related Expectation pupil results for a single Subject across an Academic Year. Using the data within the report, you can determine how individual pupils are performing over time from Assessment Point to Assessment Point. You can also compare outcomes across pupils within the group, and view the outcomes of the group as a whole. Based on the report outputs, you can put in place support strategies as required to further learning where the pupil may benefit from additional help or coaching.
In this report, pupils with missing assessment data are included in the calculations. Any numerical counts or percentage calculations regarding pupil numbers include all pupils, regardless of whether they have assessment records.

X Pupils |
Number of pupils who are included in the report. |
|
Student Name |
The Name of the pupil whose summative assessments are being compared against ARE (Age Related Expectations). After their surname, any contextual tags are listed, for example, EAL (English as an Additional Language). For further information about the contextual tags, see the Context section of the Pupil record page. |

Key Stage Outcomes - EYFS |
The pupil's EYFS outcome in the chosen subject - whether they have met the expected level in Reading, Writing, or Mathematics:
For Reading, the value displayed is ELG Word Reading. For Writing, the value shown is ELG Writing. For Mathematics, the value displayed is ELG Number. |
|
Key Stage Outcomes - Phonics |
The results of the pupil's Phonics Screening Check. This is a value between 0 and 40. In previous years, the threshold to determine whether a pupil has met the expected standard in phonic decoding was set at 32:

|
Key Stage Outcomes - KS1 |
The pupil's end of Key Stage 1 assessments in the selected subject. The grades displayed have the following meanings:
|
|
Assessment Period |
The Assessment Period that the outcomes are for within the selected Academic Year. These are generally:
Some schools, may choose to have less, or more Assessment Periods in an Academic Year. |
|
Assessment Period - Previous Summer |
The last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year containing details of how the pupil is performing and progressing. |
|
Summative |
The pupil's Age Related Expectations (ARE) progress for the Subject. Go to Point-in-Time Assessment (PITA) for more information about the codes and highlighting of the results. |
|
ARE |
The pupil's Age Related Expectation (ARE) for the Subject. Generally, this is set to At (in this model, JA/SA), meaning that the pupil is expected to be performing just at, or securely at the prescribed level for their age. They should be meeting their ARE. |
|
Difference |
The Diff (Difference) indicates any variance between a pupil's actual outcome and the ARE:

Assessment Period |
The Assessment Period that the outcomes are for, within the selected Academic Year. These are generally:
Where the current Academic Year is selected, only those Assessment Periods, year-to-date are displayed. Some schools, may choose to have less, or more Assessment Periods in an Academic Year. |
|
No Assessment |
The percentage and number of pupils where no assessment data has been recorded. This is expressed as a percentage of the total number of pupils within the group. |
|
Significantly Below |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils working in a Band associated with a lower Year Group (they're achieving at the level of a lower Year Group than would be expected for pupils in their Year Group). They are accessing appropriate curriculum content, and are probably categorised as SEN. |
|
Below |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils working towards, but currently below their Band, but the Band is within that of their Year Group. They are currently unlikely to achieve the Expected Key Stage standard. |
|
Just At |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils who are just working at the level of their Age Related Expectation. Pupils who are Just At are on track, and if they continue to progress at the same rate they should achieve the expected standard at the end of the Key Stage, however, they are only just at this level. They may not achieve their Age Related Expectation if, for example, they were to take unexpected time off school. |
|
Securely At |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils who are securely working at their Age Related Expectation. If these pupils continue to progress at the same rate, they should achieve the expected standard at the end of the Key Stage. Most pupils will be working at this level. |
|
Above |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils working in a Band above their Age Related Expectation, but within that of their Year Group. |
|
Significantly Above |
This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils working in a Bandabove that which is expected for their Year Group. They are working at the Band of a higher Year Group. It is very rare that pupils are working at this level in a UK school as they are unlikely to be moved into a higher Year Group to be taught a subject. |
