Overview

This article summarises the Test Scores against ARE view in the Subject Overview report, detailing its purpose, the information it includes, and the controls for customising the report display.

Purpose

The Test scores against ARE data analysis views of the Subject Overview report gives you the ability to compare the selected pupils' Test Scores for the selected Subject with Age Related Expectation results for a single Subject across an Academic Year. Using the data within the report, you can determine how individual pupils are performing over time from Assessment Point to Assessment Point. You can also compare outcomes across pupils within the group, and view the outcomes of the group as a whole. Based on the report outputs, you can put in place support strategies as required to further learning where the pupil may benefit from additional help or coaching.

In this report, pupils with missing assessment data are included in the calculations. Any numerical counts or percentage calculations regarding pupil numbers include all pupils, regardless of whether they have assessment records.

Elements

Field Name	Description
X Pupils	Number of pupils who are included in the report.
Student Name	The Name of the pupil whose Test Scores are being compared against ARE (Age Related Expectations). After their surname, any contextual tags are listed, for example, EAL (English as an Additional Language). For further information about the contextual tags, see the Context section of the Pupil record page.
Key Stage Outcomes - EYFS	The pupil's EYFS outcome in the chosen subject - whether they have met the expected level in Reading, Writing, or Mathematics: 2 - has achieved the expected level for the ELG (highlighted with a green background). 1 - has not achieved the expected level for the ELG (highlighted with a yellow background). For Reading, the value displayed is ELG Word Reading. For Writing, the value shown is ELG Writing. For Mathematics, the value displayed is ELG Number.
Key Stage Outcomes - Phonics	The results of the pupil's Phonics Screening Check. This is a value between 0 and 40. In previous years, the threshold to determine whether a pupil has met the expected standard in phonic decoding was set at 32: Pupil has met the expected standard - The pupil's mark is 32 or above (highlighted with a green background). Pupil has not met the expected standard - The pupil's mark is below 32 (highlighted with a red background).
Key Stage Outcomes - KS1	The pupil's end of Key Stage 1 assessments in the selected subject. The grades displayed have the following meanings: EM - Working below the level of the national curriculum and not yet engaged in subject-specific study. PK1 - Pre-key stage standard 1 (highlighted with a red background). PK2 - Pre-key stage standard 2 (highlighted with a red background). PK3 - Pre-key stage standard 3 (highlighted with a red background). PK4 - Pre-key stage standard 4 (highlighted with a red background). WTS - Working towards the expected standard (highlighted with a yellow background). EXS - Working at the expected standard (highlighted with a green background). GDS - Working at greater depth within the expected standard (highlighted with a purple background).
Assessment Period	The Assessment Period that the outcomes are for within the selected Academic Year. These are generally: Autumn 1. Autumn 2. Spring 1. Spring 2. Summer 1. Summer 2. Where the current Academic Year is selected, only those Assessment Periods, year-to-date are displayed. Some schools, may choose to have less, or more Assessment Periods in an Academic Year.
Assessment Period - Previous Summer	The last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year containing details of how the pupil is performing and progressing.
Score	The pupil's test result at the end of the Assessment Period for the Subject. For further information about scores and how they are configured, see Scores - ARE.
Range	The expected standard score and maximum score that is achievable for the test within the Assessment Period for the Subject. Where /// is displayed, this indicates that the pupil took a test within either a higher or lower Band. For further information about Scores and how they are configured, see Scores - ARE.

Field Name	Description
Assessment Period	The Assessment Period that the outcomes are for, within the selected Academic Year. These are generally: Autumn 1. Autumn 2. Spring 1. Spring 2. Summer 1. Summer 2. Where the current Academic Year is selected, only those Assessment Periods, year-to-date are displayed. Some schools, may choose to have less, or more Assessment Periods in an Academic Year.
No Assessment	The percentage and number of pupils where no assessment data has been recorded. This is expressed as a percentage of the total number of pupils within the group.
Significantly Below	This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils whose Test Scores for the selected Subject are significantly lower than their Age Related Expectation. The test that they sat is for a Band of a lower Year Group. They are accessing appropriate curriculum content, and are probably categorised as SEN.
Below	This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils whose Test Scores for the selected Subject are below that of their Age Related Expectation. The test that they sat is in the Band which is associated with their Year Group, but they underachieved compared to the Age Related Expectation. They are currently unlikely to achieve the Expected Key Stage standard.
At	This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils whose Standardised Age Scores for the selected Subject are at the level of their Age Related Expectation. Pupils who are At have achieved Test Scores that are on track, aligned to expectations, and if they continue to progress at the same rate they should achieve the expected standard at the end of the Key Stage.
Above	This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils whose Test Scores for the selected Subject are above their Age Related Expectation, but within that of their Year Group. They set a test that was at the appropriate Band of their Year Group.
Significantly Above	This Age Related Expectation indicator shows the percentage and number of pupils whose Test Scores for the selected Subject are above their Age Related Expectation. The test that they sat is for a Band of a higher Year Group.

Controls

Control	Description
	Select to refresh the contents of the report. This is particularly useful if you think that the data may have changed whilst you were using the report, for example, if someone else added new assessment data during the time you were viewing it.
Filters (1 Active Filter or x Active Filters)	The filters control indicates how many filters are currently applied to the data set. Select to contextually filter the pupils.
Academic Year	Select the Academic Year that you wish to use when you run the Subject Overview - Test scores against ARE report. By default, this will be set to the current Academic Year, for example, 2023-2024.
Assessment Period	Select the Assessment Period(s) that you wish to run the Subject Overview - Test scores against ARE report for. By default, this is set to the Assessment Periods that have already happened during the Academic Year, up to and including the current Assessment Period, and the last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year. When a previous Academic Year is selected, all Assessment Periods for that Academic Year are displayed / available for selection, along with the and last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year. The filter shows the selected number of Assessment Periods selected In this example, for the first Spring term of the Academic Year 2023-2024, in a school that has 6 Assessment Periods each year, there are 3 Assessment Periods so far this Academic Year, and the last Assessment Period of the Previous Academic Year available to select (at total of 4):
Data Analysis	Select the data analysis to display when running the Subject Overview report: Summative Against ARE - Compares the selected pupils' Summative Assessment outcomes for the selected Subject with their Age Related Expectation for the selected Assessment Periods. This is the default setting when the report loads. When selected, opens Subject Overview - Summative against ARE. Ages against ARE - Compares the selected pupils' Standardised Age Scores for the selected Subject with their Age Related Expectation for the selected Assessment Periods. When selected, opens Subject Overview - Ages against ARE.
Subject	The name of the individual Subject that is being reported on. Select from: Reading. Art and Design. Writing. Mathematics. Computing. Design and Technology. Science. Geography. History. Languages. Music. Physical Education. By default, this value is set to Reading.
PDF	Select to create a PDF version of the report. When created, the report is automatically downloaded to your device. To view the report in PDF format, locate and open the PDF file using either the built in download functionality in your web browser or the file management tools on your device.
	Select to view the Single Pupil Overview for the pupil whose name is shown to the left of the control.
	Select to sort the data shown in the report in ascending / descending order (of the column where it is selected).
