Sonar Tracker: How do I edit Summative Code Labels?

Overview

This article explains what summative code labels are, what you must consider before changing them and how to change them from the Summative Code Labels page in Sonar Tracker.

Only Admins can view and access the Summative Code Labels page.

Accessed from the Assessment Settings widget in the School page, the Summative Code Labels page within Sonar Tracker lets you change the labels that are used for Assessment Codes to align with those used by your school (if you use different labels compared to the default ones).

It is important to understand the following to ensure consistent, meaningful analysis within your school before you make changes to the Summative Code Labels:

  1. Summative Codes represent data at point of entry.
  2. Age Related Expectations are used for reporting.
  3. Although you can change the wording of the Summative Codes, this does not change the meaning.
  4. Codes and Descriptions with * are Expected in the Age Related Expectations
  5. Codes and Descriptions with ** are Above in the Age Related Expectations

If you require the meaning to be changed, please contact us.

If you do not wish to change the codes, only the labels please follow the instructions in this article.

Instructions

  1. Select School.
  2. Select Summative Code Labels from the Assessment Settings widget:
  3. Select the Assessment Type required to view the Summative Code Labels to work with. The codes for each year group/band are listed in order. By default, EYFS (2020) Summative is displayed, but you can change to Primary Summative or Age Related Expectations

  4. Select Edit Code Labels to make changes to meet your needs. It is essential to understand the relationship between Summative codes and Age Related Expectations before continuing:
    1. The Summative Codes represent the data at point of entry. So teachers will pick from the codes in the EYFS and Primary Summative entry screens.

    2. The Age Related Expectations are used for reporting, including the Juniper Benchmark data packs.

    3. In some cases the Age Related codes are a direct match for the summative Codes but they can differ. For example, you might have a summative code of Just At but want the Age Related code to be At ARE.

    4. The meaning of the codes is also important and needs to adhere to certain rules.

    5. If you have the default code of Just At, this code is always used to mean 'on track for the expected standard' (e.g. Expected in the ELGs, WTS for KS1 or 100 in the Scaled Score) in all reports. So you might want to change the code to At ARE for example, and this would be fine. But changing Just At to Just Below would not be ok as the software will continue to use that code as On Track.

    6. Similarly one or more of the codes will always be used to represent 'on track for the higher standard'.

    7. It is important to maintain these rules to enable the analysis to maintain consistent meaning for your school. It is also this consistency that allows Juniper to produce the benchmark data packs aggregating data over 1000s of schools.

  5. Enter each Custom Code and Custom Description individually (it's not possible to copy changes in bulk across all Bands (Year Groups):

  6. Select Update Scores Range.

Outcome

The changes are effective immediately. Users with an open report or assessment page may need to refresh to view the updates.
