Sonar Multi-School: Progress From Statutory Assessment Overview Widget

Sonar Multi-School

Purpose

Displayed in the Summative Dashboard in Sonar Multi-School, the Progress From Statutory Assessment Overview Widget gives you a visual representation of pupil progress by comparing attainment in the current Assessment Period against previous Statutory Assessment:

  • For Year 1 and Year 2, progress for the current Assessment Period is compared with Combined (GLD) attainment assessed at the end of the Reception Year.
  • For Year 3 through Year 6, progress for the current Assessment Period is compared with Combined (RWM) attainment (Key Stage 1 SATs) at the end of Year 2.

Progress compared to previous Statutory Assessment is indicated across seven cells within the widget:

  • Not on track and BELOW standard - pupils at greatest risk because they should be on track to achieve their Age Related Expectation but are not currently.
  • Not on track but AT standard - pupils at risk because they are not maintaining the same level of attainment, and this will impact their Average Points Score (APS) at the end of Key Stage 2 unless addressed.
  • On track but BELOW standard - pupils at risk as they are currently below Age Related Expectation for Combined (RWM).
  • On track and AT standard - pupils assessed as AT or ABOVE in Reading, Writing and Mathematics (but not ABOVE in all three subjects) who achieved EXS in their previous Statutory Assessment.
  • On track and ABOVE standard - pupils assessed as ABOVE in Reading, Writing and Mathematics who achieved GDS in their previous Statutory Assessment.
  • Accelerated track and AT standard - pupils of interest as schools are making accelerated progress with pupils that may be able to support other areas.
  • Accelerated track and ABOVE standard - pupils of interest as schools are making accelerated progress with pupils that may be able to support other areas.

You can easily identify the number of pupils across the Trust who are on track to reach their current Combined (RWM) attainment, and see those who did not previously achieve Combined (GLD) or Combined (RWM) but are now doing so. This may help you to determine where schools within the Trust are adding value. You can also select a cell to drill down into the corresponding Progress from Statutory Assessment report, which lets you see any particular school, subject, or characteristic group where pupils are not on track.

Only pupils with assessment data are included. Pupils without assessment data are not included in calculations. For example, in a Trust comprising 1,200 pupils, if 50 do not have assessment data, only the progress of 1,150 pupils will be displayed. Percentages are based on the 1,150 pupils who have assessment data, not the total of 1,200.

The Progress From Statutory Assessment Overview Widget is only available to users who are part of an establishment that comprises multiple schools in Sonar Tracker, for example, a Multi Academy Trust, and have the appropriate permission associated with their user ID to access Sonar Multi-School content.

Elements

Field name Description
Cell

Each cell in the widget comprises:

  • A cell title.
  • The percentage of the total number of pupils with assessment data whose progress is at the level indicated by the cell title (rounded to one decimal place).
  • A numeric value showing the number of pupils at that level, along with the total number of pupils who have assessment data.

The percentage is calculated as follows:

% pupils whose progress is at the level indicated by the cell title = (Number of pupils whose progress is at the level indicated by the cell title ÷ Total number of pupils with assessment data in your Trust) x 100

In the example shown above, 98 pupils are On track and AT standard in a Trust where 160 pupils have assessment data:

% pupils On track and AT standard = (98 ÷ 160) x 100 = 0.6125 x 100 = 61.25% (61.3% rounded to one decimal place)

Not on track and BELOW standard

The percentage and number of pupils that are not on track and below the standard expected for their age. They comprise pupils in:

  • Year 1 or Year 2 who achieved GLD (a Good Level of Development) at the end of their Reception Year but are BELOW for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who have moved from either EXS (Working at the expected standard) or GDS (Working at greater depth within the expected standard) in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) to BELOW for the current Assessment Period.

These pupils are of the greatest concern - they are not on track and are below the required standard. As a priority, look at opportunities to put in place interventions to support them.

Not on track but AT standard

The percentage and number of pupils that are not on track but at the standard expected for their age. They comprise pupils in Year 3 through Year 6 who have moved from either EXS or GDS in Year 2 Combined (RWM) to AT for the current Assessment Period.

These pupils are of the greatest concern - they are not making the expected level of progress despite being at ARE. As a priority, look at opportunities to put in place interventions to support them.

On track but BELOW standard

The percentage and number of pupils that are on track but below the standard expected for their age. They comprise pupils in:

  • Year 1 or Year 2 who did not achieve GLD at the end of their Reception Year and are BELOW for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who were WTS (Working towards the expected standard) in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now BELOW for the current Assessment Period.

These pupils form a secondary priority group. They are on track but their progress is below the expected standard. Look at opportunities to put in place interventions to help them reach the required standard.

On track and AT standard

The percentage and number of pupils that are on track and at the standard expected for their age. They comprise pupils in:

  • Year 1 or Year 2 who achieved GLD at the end of their Reception Year and are AT for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who were EXS in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now AT for the current Assessment Period.
On track and ABOVE standard The percentage and number of pupils that are on track and above the standard expected for their age. They comprise pupils in Year 3 through Year 6 who were GDS in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now ABOVE for the current Assessment Period.
Accelerated track and AT standard

The percentage and number of pupils progressing at an accelerated level. Having previously been assessed below the level expected for their age, they are now achieving at the expected level. They comprise pupils in:

  • Year 1 or Year 2 who did not achieve GLD at the end of their Reception Year and are AT for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who were WTS in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now AT for the current Assessment Period.
Accelerated track and ABOVE standard

The percentage and number of pupils progressing at an accelerated level and achieving above the expected standard. They comprise pupils in:

  • Year 1 or Year 2 who achieved GLD at the end of their Reception Year and are ABOVE for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 1 or Year 2 who did not achieve GLD at the end of their Reception Year but are now either AT or ABOVE for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who were EXS in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now ABOVE for the current Assessment Period.
  • Year 3 through Year 6 who were WTS in Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Combined (RWM) and are now either AT or ABOVE for the current Assessment Period.
