Sonar Multi-School
Purpose
Accessed from the Summative Dashboard in Sonar Multi-School, the Diminishing The Difference (Gender) Widget displays the attainment of Female and Male pupils, along with the gap in performance between the two groups (the Gender Gap). This gives you insight into the scale of any performance gap and how it has changed over time, so you can see the impact of any interventions and plan future ones to close the gap between Female and Male pupils.
Pupil attainment is shown as a percentage of Male and Female pupils who are achieving either At or Above ARE in Combined (RWM) or Combined (GLD) depending on the year group the pupil is currently in. A second percentage indicator shows how the attainment of each gender group has changed since the previous Assessment Period. In addition to the individual gender headline figures, a further headline shows the gap between the different genders for the current assessment period and how much it has changed since the previous Assessment Period.
If you want to view the attainment of both genders and the associated gap over a longer period (the previous two academic years), and for individual subjects (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) as well as combined subjects, you can do this from within the widget's report view.
Calculations are based only on pupils with assessment data. Pupils without assessment data are not included in calculations.
The Diminishing The Difference (Gender) Widget is only available to users who are part of an establishment that comprises multiple schools in Sonar Tracker, for example, a Multi Academy Trust, and have the appropriate permission associated with their user ID to access Sonar Multi-School content.

This widget comprises two views:

In the example:
- For the current Assessment Period, 76.9% of Female pupils are either At or Above ARE for their Summative Assessment in Combined (RWM). Meanwhile, 62.5% of Male pupils are either At or Above ARE. The Gender Gap between the two is 7.4% - female pupils are performing 7.4% better than male pupils.
- The difference between the current and previous Assessment Period for Females shows a 0.5% increase in pupils either At or Above ARE. Meanwhile, there has been a 1.5% decrease for Male pupils. An increase in attainment between assessment periods is shown in green with a green up-arrow. A decrease is shown in red with a red up-arrow.
- This makes the gap between Females and Males 2.0% greater than in the previous Assessment Period. When the gap widens, this is displayed in red with an up-arrow. When the gap closes, this is displayed in green with a green down-arrow. Red indicates the gap is widening; green indicates it is reducing, which shows each pupil has a fairer chance to succeed.
