MIS: How do I view or update a pupil's ethnicity and ethnicity source?

MIS

Overview

This article explains how to view and update a pupil's ethnicity and where that information came from. You record both on the pupil's record.

The Ethnicity Source field shows the full description of the source, for example "Provided by the parent / guardian / individual with parental responsibility". This means you can see where the data came from without looking up codes.

Prerequisites

  • You must have the appropriate permissions assigned to your Juniper account to edit pupil records.

View a pupil's ethnicity and ethnicity source

Follow these steps to see a pupil's ethnicity and its source:

  1. Go to Pupils / All Pupils.
  2. Locate the pupil. Use the search bar or filters to speed this up.
  3. Select the pupil's name to open their record.
  4. Select Identity, then select Funding / Census.
  5. Scroll to Ethnicity.

The Ethnicity section displays the pupil's ethnicity and ethnicity source.

Update a pupil's ethnicity source

Follow these steps to change the ethnicity or its source:

  1. Follow steps 1 to 5 above to find the ethnicity details.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Update Ethnicity as needed.
  4. Select the correct Ethnicity Source. Choose C - Provided by the child / pupil / student or P - Provided by the parent / guardian / individual with parental responsibility.
  5. Select Save.

A message confirms that your changes are saved.

Tips and best practices

  • The Ethnicity Source field doesn't appear when you add a pupil. New entries default to the parent / guardian source (P).
  • If the pupil gave their own ethnicity, update the source to the pupil option after you add the pupil.
  • Check ethnicity details before you run your School Census, because errors must be fixed in the MIS.
