MIS: How do I record an exclusion review for a pupil?

Overview

This article explains how to record an exclusion review from the Exclusion Reviews tab on an individual exclusion record. You can add more than one review to an exclusion.

There are two review categories: GB - Governing Body and IRP - Independent Review Panel. 

You cannot select IRP - Independent Review Panel unless the exclusion already has a governing-body review recorded with the result GNO. If this is missing, the MIS shows a warning and does not let you continue.

Open the exclusion

To open an exclusion record for a pupil:

  1. Select Pupils.
  2. Select All Pupils.
  3. Select the pupil's Full Name to open their Pupil details.

  4. Select Conduct, then select Exclusions:

  5. Select Exclusion Reason 1 for the exclusion you want to open.

You can also reach an exclusion from Manage, then Exclusions, which lists exclusions for every pupil in your school. 

Add a governing body review

  1. Select the Exclusion Reviews tab:

  2. Select Add New:

  3. From the new Exclusion window:

    1. Select GB - Governing Body from the Exclusion Review Category field.
    2. Select the Exclusion Review Result.
    3. Select Save.

Add an independent review panel review

  1. Select the Exclusion Reviews tab:

  2. Select Add New:

  3. From the new Exclusion window:

    1. Select IRP - Independent Review Panel from the Exclusion Review Category field.
    2. Select the Exclusion Review Result from:
      • HWD - Withdrawn.
      • INO - The independent review panel upheld the governing board's initial decision that the pupil should not be reinstated, so the pupil is not offered reinstatement.
      • JRE - The independent review panel recommended the governing board reconsider reinstatement, and the pupil is offered reinstatement.
      • KRE - The independent review panel directed the governing board to reconsider reinstatement, and the pupil is offered reinstatement.
      • LNO - The independent review panel recommended the governing board reconsider reinstatement, but the pupil is not offered reinstatement.
      • MNO - The independent review panel directed the governing board to reconsider reinstatement, but the pupil is not offered reinstatement.
      • NOG - Ongoing, with no decision yet.
    3. Select the Exclusion Appeal Date.
    4. Select the Exclusion Reinstatement Date.
    5. Check SEN Expert Indicator as applicable.
    6. Select Save.

If you select IRP - Independent Review Panel and the exclusion does not already have a governing-body review recorded with the result GNO, MIS shows a warning and does not save the record.

Outcome

The exclusion review is saved and appears on the exclusion's Exclusion Reviews tab.
