Overview
This article explains how to record an appeal against a permanent exclusion, and how to record the outcome of that appeal.
Appeal Details is a tab on an individual exclusion record, alongside Basic Details and Exclusion Reviews.
Prerequisites
- This article applies to permanent exclusions only.
Open the exclusion
To open an exclusion record for a pupil:
- Select Pupils.
- Select All Pupils.
- Select the pupil's Full Name to open their Pupil details.

Select Conduct, then select Exclusions:
- Select Exclusion Reason 1 for the exclusion you want to open.
You can also reach an exclusion from Manage, then Exclusions, which lists exclusions for every pupil in your school.
Record the appeal

Select the Appeal Details tab:

Select Edit:

From the edit page:
- Select or enter the Exclusion Appeal Date.
- Enter any relevant Exclusion Appeal Notes.
- Select the Exclusion Appeal Outcome, either Rejected or Upheld.
- Select the Exclusion Appeal Outcome Date.
- Select Save.
Exclusion Appeal Outcome and Exclusion Appeal Outcome Date become mandatory once you enter an Exclusion Appeal Date.
The MIS checks the Exclusion Appeal Date and Exclusion Appeal Outcome Date against the exclusion's start date, and shows an error message if the dates are not valid.
Outcome
Your changes are saved and appear on the exclusion's Appeal Details tab.
