MIS
Overview
This article explains how to promote classes to the next academic year in Juniper MIS. Promoting classes moves your existing classes into the new year, lets you rename them, and gives you the option to adjust which pupils are included. Promoting classes is the final task in the end-of-year rollup process.
Prerequisites
- You must be an Account Owner or Account Admin to promote your classes.
- Pupil leavers must be processed before this task becomes available. See Process Pupil Leavers in Juniper MIS.
Promote classes
Follow these steps to promote your classes to the next academic year.
- From the End of Year wizard, select Go to page next to Promote classes. You are taken to the Classes page under Groups.

The Promote Classes view opens. All current classes are listed with their pupil count, staff members, and a name field for the new year:
- In the 20xx / 20xx Name field next to each class, enter the name you want to use for that class in the new academic year, Class 1 2026.
- Repeat for each class in the list.
- Select Save to apply the class promotions.
The Selected Pupils column shows the number of pupils selected for promotion out of the total in the class. Pupils marked as leavers are automatically excluded.
If you want to rename all classes in a consistent format, for example, adding the year, enter all of the names before saving so you can review them all at once.
Adjust which pupils are promoted
Follow these steps to change which pupils are included in a class promotion.

In the Promote Classes view, select the Selected Pupils count next to the class you want to adjust. A dialog box appears listing all pupils in that class:
- Check or uncheck individual pupils to include or exclude them from the promotion. Pupils tagged as Leaver are unchecked by default and cannot be checked.
- Select Save to confirm your selection and close the dialog box.
Select the information icon next to a class name to view important details about the class before promoting it, for example, whether it has been promoted already, or the number of pupils not yet assigned to a class for the new year:
Verify promoted classes
Follow these steps to confirm that your classes have been promoted successfully.
- Go to Groups / Classes.
- Select the Academic Year field and choose the new academic year from the list.
- Your promoted classes appear in the list with their new names and updated pupil counts.
Tips and best practices
- Select Cancel at any point before saving to exit Promote Classes view without making changes.
