MIS
Overview
This article explains how to set term dates for a new academic year in Juniper MIS, and how to use the calendar to view and mark holidays, training days, and other calendar events. Setting term dates is the first task in the end-of-year rollup process.
Prerequisites
- You must be an Account Owner or Account Admin to set and edit term dates.
Set term dates
Follow these steps to select an academic year and set the start and end dates for each term from within the MIS:
- Go to Manage / Settings / Institution.
-
Select the Term Dates tab:
-
Select Edit:
- Select the Academic Year field and choose the year you want to configure from the list (for example, the next Academic Year).
-
For each term / half-term (for example, Autumn 1, Autumn 2, Spring 1, Spring 2, Summer 1, and Summer 2), select the Start Date - End Date and use the calendar to set the start and end dates:
The current term is indicated with lines above and below it. Any past terms, along with the current term are indicated in the Current Term column.
- Select Save to save your term dates. A confirmation message appears when the terms have been updated successfully.
Your school is shown as operating in the current academic year. The year shown in the notification bar at the top of the page does not change until the new term begins.
Set your term dates before adding calendar events. The calendar uses term dates to display the correct months.
View and filter the calendar
Follow these steps to view your school calendar and filter it by term or event type from Manage / Settings / Institution/ Term Dates in the MIS:
- Scroll down to the calendar section below the term dates table.
- Use Select Term to filter the calendar by term, for example, Autumn, Spring, or Summer.
- Use the Calendar Key to identify each day type. The key shows colour codes for Open, Weekend, Holiday, Closed, and Training days.
- Select a calendar key label, for example, Training to highlight those days in the calendar view.
Mark holidays and other calendar events
Follow these steps to mark a specific date as a holiday, training day, closed day, or open day.
- Scroll down to the calendar section below the term dates table.
- Optionally, use Select Term to filter the calendar by term, for example, Autumn, Spring, or Summer.
- Optionally, use the Calendar Key to identify each day type. The key shows colour codes for Open, Weekend, Holiday, Closed, and Training days.
- In the calendar, select the date you want to add. A menu appears showing the available day types.
- Select the appropriate day type, for example, Holiday to apply it to that date. The date updates to reflect your selection.
Selecting a date that is already marked as Open gives you the option to change it to Holiday, Closed, or Training. Select the date again to change or remove the marking.
Tips and best practices
- Add INSET days and bank holidays to the calendar after saving your term dates. This gives you the most accurate picture of open school days.
- You can view previous academic years by selecting an earlier year from the Academic Year field. This is useful for reference, but you must select the relevant year before editing.
Next steps
After setting your term dates, return to the End of Year wizard and complete the next task: managing admissions. See MIS: Import pupils (joiners) ready for the new academic year.
