MIS
Overview
This article explains how to process pupil leavers in Juniper MIS. Processing leavers sets a leaving date and reason for pupils who are leaving your school, and generates a CTF file for their new schools. Processing pupil leavers is the third task in the end-of-year rollup process.
Prerequisites
- You must be an Account Owner or Account Admin to process leavers.
Process pupil leavers
Follow these steps to process your leavers. The wizard takes you through four steps.
- From the End of Year wizard, select Go to page next to Process leavers. You are taken to the Leavers page under Statutory / Exports.
-
Select Process Leavers to start the wizard:
You must repeat the process below for each of your destination schools to produce a CTF for them comprising only the leavers joining their school.
-
From Step 1 - Destination:
- Select a Leaving Date for the leavers. Set this as the last day of the Summer term.
- Select a Leaving Reason, for example, End of phase transfer - Maintained school.
-
Select a Destination Institution (or Unknown Destination as appropriate). The Destination LA, Destination School, and Destination Establishment Number autocomplete when a Destination Institution is selected.
By default, Destination Institution, Destination LA, Destination School, and Destination Establishment Number are set to unknown values.
- Check Create CTF to generate a CTF file to send to the pupils' new school.
-
Select Next.
If the leaving date is in the future, a dialog box appears to confirm that pupils will be archived automatically the day after that date. Select OK to continue.
- From Step 2 - Selection:
- Select the Academic Year field and choose the relevant year.
- Select the Year Group field and choose the year group you want to process, for example, Year 6 2025.
- Check those pupils that you want to mark as leaving. The count updates to show how many pupils are selected.
- Select Next to continue.
- From Step 3 - Confirmation:
- Review the list of leavers.
-
Select Next to confirm and process.
Processing leavers is not reversible. Check your pupil selection carefully before selecting Next on the confirmation step.
-
Step 4 - Result indicates progress, then provides a summary of the changes:
- Select Download Export to download a copy of the export file to your device.
- Select View All Leavers CTF Exports to close the window and return to Leavers.
If you need to process leavers from more than one year group, repeat the steps above for each group. Each export is listed separately on the Leavers page.
Tips and best practices
- Set the leaving date as the last day of the Summer term. Pupils archive automatically the day after this date, so they are removed from active rolls at the right time.
- Use the Year Group filter to process leavers by cohort. This is the most reliable way to make sure you only select the pupils who are leaving at end of phase.
Next steps
After processing your leavers, return to the End of Year wizard and complete the the next task, Promoting classes. See MIS: Promote classes.
