Overview
This article explains how you enable and configure First Day calling in Comms Hub. First Day calling automates sending out a standardised text message (SMS) and / or email to the contacts of your choice (for example, those with parental responsibility), on the first day of an unauthorised pupil absence from school. The process includes enabling the feature, assigning a message template, and choosing the contact types for the message to be sent to.
Prerequisites
- You must be an Account Owner or an Account Admin to enable First Day calling.
Instructions
- Select Comms Hub.
- Select Settings.
- Select Communications.
- Select Attendance to open the Unauthorised Absences window:
- In the SMS pane, select Edit to open Edit Attendance SMS:
- To enable First Day calling by SMS, select Active:

Select the Template you want to use to send First Day calling SMS alerts:
By default, the First day messaging template is selected. Use this template if it meets with your school's needs, or set up a new template (see Comms Hub: How do I create a text message (SMS) template?).
- Select the Type of Contacts you want to send the message to. You can select more than one contact type:
- Select Save.
- In the Email pane, select Edit to open Email:
- To enable First Day calling by Email, select Active:
- Select the Template you want to use to send First Day calling SMS alerts:
- Select Save.
Outcome
Your settings are saved.
Your First Day calling has been configured to send a message to the relevant contacts using the method(s) and template(s) that you have selected.
