RE Research Review

On 12th May 2021, Ofsted released its second research review, this time into RE, looking at the factors contributing to a high-quality RE curriculum.

Whilst the review found that there was no single way to construct and deliver a high-quality RE curriculum, it did find some common features of strong practice. These include, amongst other things:

  • Coverage and content are grounded in what is known about religion and non-religion from academic study.
  • Pupils are given opportunities to commit learning to long-term memory and draw on this when encountering new concepts and content.
  • The RE curriculum is well-sequenced and is awarded enough time in the wider curriculum
  • Teachers are well trained and have good subject knowledge.
