On 25th May 2021, Ofsted published its research review into mathematics. The review identifies factors leading to high-quality maths education, assessment, pedagogy and systems. The findings will inform Ofstedās subject report about Maths teaching from Reception onwards.
In summary, the research review found that, despite English pupils achieving, on average, higher attainment than pupils in many other countries, the attainment gap between low and high achievers in England is wide. In addition, the report points to the large gap in attainment between disadvantaged and advantaged pupils and also highlights the issue of recruiting specialist maths teachers.
