On 14th July 2021, Ofsted released its history research review. The review outlines the national context of history, considers curriculum progression, explores assessment, pedagogy and leadership, and summarises the factors contributing to a high-quality history education.
The findings indicate that whilst much of the content of the history curriculum is statutory, teachers and leaders appreciate the freedom given to them about curriculum design. This process is strongest when careful consideration is given to topic choices, content choices and further emphasis within the broad content selected.
