Overview
This article explains how to create a dynamic group. Dynamic groups are updated each time you open them based on the filters selected when creating the group. Dynamic groups can be selected from within the Custom Groups filter.
Instructions
Follow these steps to create a dynamic pupil group:
- Select Pupils.
- Select All Pupils.

Select the various Filters that you want to apply to the dynamic pupil group:
To view a summary of filters selected, select Applied Filters:
- Select Save.
- Select As Dynamic Group:
- From Enter Dynamic Group Name:
- Enter a Name for the dynamic group.
- Optionally, enter a Description.
- Select the Visibility Level from:
- Just me - only you can see the group.
- Everyone at my role level and above - everyone at your role level and above can see the group.
- Anyone - all users within your school can see the group.
- If you want to receive alerts when pupils join and leave the group within the dashboard widget, check Group Membership Dashboard Alerts. See MIS: Where can I see changes made to my dynamic group? for further information.
- Select Save.
Outcome
The dynamic group is created. A message is displayed to confirm this:
Pupils will be added to / removed from the list dynamically based on the filters you selected.
If you checked Group Membership Dashboard Alerts, any changes to the group will be displayed in the dashboard widget. For further information, see MIS: Where can I see dynamic group update notifications?

Dynamic groups can be selected from within the Custom Groups filter.
