Sonar Tracker: Can we add Religious Education (RE) as an EYFS summative area?

Currently, the Subjects from the EYFS Framework are listed in the EYFS Summative area of Sonar Tracker.

By default, the 17 Aspects that match directly to the Early Learning Goal Assessments are enabled.

Your school can request to change to assess the 7 Areas: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

If choose to change these, you must be aware that they will not match the ELG subjects, and you won't be able to assess Aspects such as Word Reading, Comprehension and Writing separately throughout the year. Also, when the change is made, previous assessments will be lost as they no longer relate to the subject areas.

Can we add RE?

Currently, we expect RE for EYFS pupils to be recorded within the aspect People, Culture and Communities or the Area Understanding the World, therefore, we don't offer a separate Religious Education subject area for EYFS.

It may be useful for you to assess RE summatively in Assessments > Primary Summative for EYFS children. If you are assessing children in Nursery cohorts, select Reception initially and then, once you have chosen the subject use Active Filters to remove Reception, and choose a Nursery class group.

For this to be considered for change, we need to understand why schools are asking for this and ensure any changes are in line with the functionality of the software. If your school would like to be able to assess Religious Education as an additional subject within the EYFS Summative area, vote and add a comment to this post in our User Voice Portal, explaining why using the existing EYFS areas for RE is not sufficient - Bespoke subjects for EYFS – Have an idea?
