Overview
This article provides an overview of the End of Reception Outcomes report's purpose, guidance on accessing it, the various types of information it contains, and the different controls that help you customise what you see in the report.
Purpose
The End of Reception Outcomes report lets you analyse pupils' performance against the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) at the end of the Reception year. As well as being useful for governors, this report is especially helpful in pupil performance meetings. The report comprises two views:
This view displays how the group of pupils have performed across the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs). This is indicated as both the number of pupils, and the percentage of the overall group achieving at the expected level. Pupil data is grouped by characteristic, for example, All Pupils, Boys, Girls, Disadvantaged and Pupil Premium. Percentages are calculated using only those pupils within the group who have assessment values recorded against them.
This view lists all pupils (one per row of the report) and how they performed across the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) / Aspects. For each of the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) the pupil's outcomes are indicated. Each Early Learning Goals (ELGs) outcome is attributed a score as follows:
- 1 - Pupil was at the "emerging" level.
- 2 - Pupil was at the "expected" level.
A total of their overall outcomes is given. This is measured out of 34 (a maximum of 2 is awarded for each outcome). Pupils achieving 34 will be indicated as achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD).
Pupils are defined as having reached a Good Level of Development (GLD) at the end of the EYFS if they have achieved the expected level for the ELGs in the prime areas of learning and the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.
Pupils with missing assessment data are not included in the calculations. Numerical counts or percentages regarding pupil numbers are based on those with assessment records, not the total pupil count. For example, if you have 50 pupils, but only 46 pupils have assessment records, any pupil counts will be based on the set of 46 pupils with assessment records, note a total of 50. This too will be the case for percentages which, in this example, would be calculated based on a set size of 46, and not the total number of 50 pupils.
Opening the page
After selecting the End of Reception Outcomes report from the Reports page menu, you will be prompted to select which pupils you wish to include. Select one or more Year Groups and / or Classes then select Load Report:

Total |
The percentage and number of pupils who are included in the All Pupils group or the individual Pupil Characteristic groups. The percentage is calculated based on the total number of members of the group, divided by the total number of All Pupils. The percentage is calculated as follows: Pupils Total % = For example if :

Each column shown after the Total column, and before the % Good Level of Development (GLD) column in the table represents the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) from the seven areas of learning in EYFS. The overall percentage of pupils (and number of pupils) within the All Pupils or selected Pupil Characteristic group that have achieved a Good Level of Development.

Early Learning Goal (ELG) / Pupil Characteristic cell |
The percentage of pupils (and number of pupils) within the All Pupils or other Pupil Characteristic group that have achieved a Good Level of Development. The percentage is calculated as follows: Pupils who have met the ELG % = For example, if:
Boys who have met the ELG in Speaking % = It is important to remember that this percentage is calculated based on the size of the set. |

|
Total (/34) |
The pupil's total assessment outcome. This is presented as a number from a total of 34. 34 is the highest achievable outcome for a pupil across the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs). For Each ELG, an outcome of either 1 or 2 is awarded, where:
The Total is calculated by adding together the outcomes of each Early Learning Goal (ELG). |
|
Good Level of Development (GLD) |
A Yes / No indicator showing whether the pupil has achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD) outcome for all ELGs where outcomes have been entered into Sonar Tracker:
It is key to understand that this indicator is only based on ELGs where pupil data has been entered. For example, if the results from nine ELGs have been entered into the system, to achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD) outcome, the pupil must have a total outcome of 18. This cell does not calculate a Yes for Good Level of Development (GLD) based on a total of 34 unless data has been entered for the pupil for all 17 ELGs. It is only when a pupil's Total is 34 can this be seen as a true indicator that the pupil has achieved an overall Good Level of Development (GLD). |

Early Learning Goal (ELG) / Pupil cell |
In the final term of the Reception year, teachers complete an Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) for each child, and their development must be assessed against each of the Early Learning Goals. The contents of this cell show the grades for each pupil as follows:
