Ensuring accurate and relevant titles enhances the visitor experience and maintains consistency across PDF documents hosted on your website. You should review and update titles to reflect the content accurately.
When viewing PDF documents in your web browser, a title is displayed:
This title is inherited from the original document when it was created.
If you use the same Word document as a template for multiple PDFs, it's crucial to update the title before converting the Word document into a PDF.
The only way to update the title of a PDF is by editing its document properties and subsequently re-uploading it to your website.
Updating the title
You can choose to edit your title in either Adobe Acrobat Reader or within Microsoft Word:
-
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Navigate to File > Properties to view and edit the added title.
-
- Right-click the PDF file.
- Select Open with.
- Select Word.
- Select OK to open the document in Microsoft Word.
- Select File > Info:
- Select the Properties dropdown on the right.
- Select Advanced Properties:
- Replace the title
- Select OK.
- Save the document as a PDF.
- Upload the new version of the file to your website.
We recommend that you also rename the file so that it has a different name than the original file to prevent caching issues.
