What is a Cluster Admin?
Clusters need at least one CLUSTERADMIN user to manage user access across Horizons. Being a CLUSTERADMIN is different from having regular cluster access.
CLUSTERADMIN is the highest level of access in a MAT. It allows viewing and editing of all schools in the cluster through a single sign-in. It also lets you give certain users access to multiple schools, either specific ones or all within the cluster. These users can have different access levels in different schools.
CLUSTERADMIN users can be created at the MAT level or within a specific school. Both types of users can access all schools in the MAT. A user associated with a school will see their main school upon login, while a MAT-level user will see the Cluster Dashboard (both can access the Cluster Dashboard).
If your cluster doesn't currently have a user with this level of access, the trust head or central team can request one via email, as the support team can't grant multi-school access.
How to Add a new user at Cluster level
Navigate to the People > Staff tab and select Add new user / staff:
Complete the required fields and select Cluster Admin from the User Type. Also ensure that the 'Member of Cluster Staff field is set (please note that you can also select a school from the 'Member of school' field which will add them to the staff list in the school selected):
Once saved, the user will be able to head to the login page and click the 'first time login' to generated a password email.
How to set up additional school access for school-level users
Head to the user profile from Admin > Staff (school level) or People > Staff (cluster level) and navigate to the User Access menu. From here, you will see a 'Roles and Access Permissions' area:
If you want a user to have access to all cluster schools, choose your cluster and mark the 'Access applies to the whole cluster' option. This user will have the same access level in all schools within the cluster.
To add access to more schools, keep the cluster selected and save the profile. To add another school, click the 'Add' button in Additional School Access, then pick the school and access level for that school.
This process can be repeated for other schools.
