Overview
The benefit of this PITA shared language is that it is directly comparable with previous attainment and future targets;
A Yr 5 pupil assessed as 'Expected' at KS1, with a current assessment of 'Securely At' and a Summer 2 Target of 'Securely At' is on track.
whereas
A Yr 5 pupil assessed as 'Working Towards' at KS1, with a current assessment of 'Working Towards' and a Summer 2 Target of 'Securely At' is not yet on track.
In a PITA model, pupils are defined as having made progress if they stay at the same judgement eg 'Securely At' to 'Securely At' as this indicates they have kept up with the requirements.
Pupils who were 'Just At' and are now 'Securely At' will show as having made above expected progress.
So pupils who are 'Significantly Below' at each assessment point will show as having made expected progress.
Whilst this is useful for high level data analysis, it is right to also use other ways to track how these children are doing as, regardless of progress (or lack of), pupils will show as having made progress due to remaining in the significantly below band.
Advice
For children working out of year look for other ways to compare with previous attainment / future targets.
You may find it helpful to use filters (if all these pupils are SEN) or manually create a group - Sonar Tracker: How do I add a group? to filter reports to focus on these pupils.
Consider using reports like the Flightpath Report to see the bigger picture for these children,
as well as Target Analysis Report with individual targets set for Summer 2;
- Set appropriate targets (see Primary Targets).
- View progress using the appropriate Target Analysis report (EYFS (2020) Target Analysis Report or the Primary Target Analysis Report).
