Sonar Tracker: How do I record special consideration for KS2 results?

Sonar Tracker

Overview

This article explains how to update a pupil's results in Sonar Tracker, where special considerations have been applied.

The DfE may grant special consideration for a pupil affected by a significant event during Key Stage 2 tests. Although special consideration does not change the pupil's own scaled score, for school performance measures, the DfE adds three points to the scaled score in each affected subject. This adjusted score affects the school's attainment and progress measures, but not the pupil's individual result.

Sonar Tracker calculates scaled scores from raw scores. To reflect any adjustments in Sonar Tracker for your own analysis, you can update the raw score to match the new scaled score.

When reporting to parents, use the pupil's original scaled score, not the adjusted score used for performance measures.

Prerequisites

  • You need Account Owner, Account Admin, or Full Edit permission to edit statutory assessment data in Sonar Tracker.
  • You need the correct Key Stage 2 conversion table for the relevant year, to find the raw score that matches the adjusted scaled score.

Instructions

Only follow these steps after you have reported the pupil's original scaled score to parents. You must not report adjusted scores to parents as they apply to the school, not the pupil.

Follow these steps to reflect an adjusted scaled score in Sonar Tracker where a pupil's results have changed because of special consideration:

  1. Select Assessments.
  2. Select End of Key Stage Two from the Statutory Assessments list:
  3. When prompted, select Year 6 and optionally, a Year 6 Class for which you wish to enter test results:
  4. Select Open Assessment, the End of Key Stage Two input page opens for the selected pupils:
  5. Select Edit Assessment
  6. From Edit Assessment:

    1. Optionally, change the Assessment Date if it is different to the one shown (by default this is today's date). Any information that you enter / edit will be assigned to the selected date.
    2. Select Start Editing.
  7. Use the filters to select the subject that you want to edit:

  8. Check the Key Stage 2 conversion table for the relevant year. Find the raw score that matches the pupil's adjusted scaled score, for example:
    1. A pupil with a raw score of 32 in Mathematics in 2025 had a scaled score of 93. With special consideration, their scaled score for school performance analysis becomes 96.
    2. In 2025, a scaled score of 96 came from a raw score of 42, 43, 44 or 45. To reflect this, change the pupil's total maths raw score to 42, 43, 44 or 45.
  9. Select the pupil's total raw score cell for that subject, then enter the new raw score.
  10. Repeat Step 7 to Step 9 for each subject area, pupil and assessment.

Outcome

Sonar Tracker calculates the new scaled score automatically. This field is read-only.

The updated scaled score appears in the Statutory Dashboard the following day.
