Overview
This article explains how to prepare for pupil progress meetings using the following:
- For primary, the Primary Pupil Progress Meeting report (Sonar Tracker: Primary Pupil Progress Meeting Report) to see which pupils have progressed and which have not, including those who have regressed.
- The appropriate Quadrant report (Sonar Tracker: EYFS (2020) Quadrant Report or Sonar Tracker: Primary Quadrant Report) to compare progress and attainment.
- The appropriate Conversion Matrix report (Sonar Tracker: EYFS (2020) Assessment Conversion Matrix Report or Sonar Tracker: Primary Assessment Conversion Matrix Report) to identify pupil progress over time.
- For primary, the Subject Overview report (Sonar Tracker: Subject Overview Report) to identify progress throughout the year at an individual and class level.
As a teacher, you can use this information to discuss:
- What you've done well to help those pupils who have improved their progress.
- Why the progress of other pupils' has not improved.
Instructions - Primary Pupil Progress Meeting Report
- Select Reports.
- Select Primary Pupil Progress Meeting.
- When prompted, select your Year Group and/or Class:
- Select Load Report. This opens the report in its default view:
- As appropriate, select a different Academic Year and Assessment Period.
- When reviewing the contents of the report, pay attention to:
- Those pupils who have a green arrow next to their name. This indicates that they have made progress since the last assessment period. Consider what you've done well to help those pupils who have improved their progress.
- Those pupils with a red arrow next to their name. This indicates that they have regressed since the last assessment period. Consider what could have happened that has negated the pupil's progress. This may include their attendance. For each pupil, consider what interventions could be put in place to help them meet their potential.
- Pupils that are at or above their expected level. Consider what you've done well to help those pupils who have improved their progress.
- Pupils who are not on track to meet ARE. Where appropriate, consider why they are below ARE and what interventions could be put in place.
Instructions - Quadrant Report
- Select Reports.
- Select either EYFS (2020) Quadrant or Primary Quadrant.
- When prompted, select your Year Group and/or Class:
- Select Load Report. This opens the quadrant in its default view from the previous assessment period to this assessment period:
- As appropriate, select a different assessment start period from the From menu and a different starting period To, along with different subjects:

The quadrant will be updated with the appropriate subjects and assessment period.
Select a value within a cell to view the names of the individual pupils:
Pay attention to those that are At or Above Expectation and ARE On Track. Consider what you've done well to help those pupils who have improved their progress.
Additionally, look at pupils whose ARE is not on track (bottom-left and bottom-right) - these are the pupils who are not performing as expected. For each pupil, consider why they are below their ARE.
Instructions - Conversion Matrix Report
- Select Reports.
- Select either EYFS (2020) Conversion Matrix or Primary Conversion Matrix
- When prompted, select your Year Group and/or Class:
- Select Load Report. This opens the conversion matrix in its default view that compares the current assessment period with the last assessment period in the previous academic year:
- As appropriate, select a different assessment start period from the From menu and a different starting period To, along with your Subject of choice:
The conversion matrix will be updated with the appropriate subjects and assessment period. -
Select a value within a cell to view the names of the individual pupils:
- Review the data paying attention to those pupils who are highlighted within the purple and red cells within the matrix. Purple cells represent those pupils whose progress has improved more than expected. Pupils who fall within red cells are making progress at a level lower than would have been expected.
Instructions - Subject Overview Report
- Select Reports.
- Select the Subject Overview
- When prompted, select at least one Year Group or Class:
- Select Load Report. This opens the Subject Overview report in its default view that compares the assessment period(s) of the current academic year with the last assessment period in the previous academic year:
- As appropriate, change the assessment periods and your Subject of choice:
The report will be updated with the appropriate subject and assessment periods. - Using the data within the report, you can determine how individual pupils are performing over time between the assessment points. You can also compare outcomes across pupils within the group, and view the outcomes of the group as a whole.
Outcome
Using one or more of these reports, you have the data to support discussions about:
- What you've done well to help those pupils who have improved their progress.
- Why the progress of other pupils' has not improved.
