Overview
This article provides an overview of the Primary Formative Progress Analysis report's purpose, guidance on accessing it, the various types of information it contains, and the different controls that help you customise what you see in the report.
Purpose
The Primary Formative Progress Analysis report lets classroom teachers quickly view the progress of individual pupils between two different Assessment Periods. Using this information, classroom teachers can:
- Identify progress and the pattern of progress for each pupil in the selected subject area between the two Assessment Periods.
- Understand the depth of learning of pupils, whilst demonstrating where finer progress has been made within the selected subject.
Progress is recorded based on the number of formative objectives completed. The total number of objectives is displayed. For the first and second assessment periods, the number of completed objectives is then displayed, along with the difference between the two. The completed objectives are displayed as a percentage (of the total number of objectives).
By default, when the report is opened, the formative assessment results for the last Assessment Period of the previous Academic Year, and the current Assessment Period are displayed for Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
Opening the page
After selecting the Primary Formative Progress Analysis report from the Reports page menu, you will be prompted to select which pupils you wish to include. Select one or more Year Groups and / or Classes then select Load Report:

Field Name |
Description |
|---|---|
|
X Pupils |
Number of pupils who are included in the report. |
|
Subject |
Name of the subject whose assessment results and associated progress are displayed. |
|
% of x objectives from Band(s) |
Sub title that explains the progress measures shown in the report. The title is updated to reflect the number of objectives across the selected bands, for example, in the case of Reading at Band 6, this is displayed as % of 18 objectives from Band 6. |
|
Name - Overall Ave |
A summary line that provides the overall average percentage of objectives that have been marked as achieved in each subject, and the change over time between the two displayed Assessment Periods, across all pupils:
|
|
Name - Pupil |
The name of the individual pupil whose objectives achieved and progress is being displayed. |
|
From Academic Year and Assessment Point |
The percentage of objectives that the pupil has been assessed as Achieved or Higher during the first Assessment Period (From). The percentage is calculated by dividing the number of all the objectives where the pupil has been assessed as Achieved or Higher by the total number of objectives for the Subject and Band. This value is then multiplied by 100 to give a percentage: (Number of objectives assessed as Achieved or Higher ÷ Total number of objectives) x 100 For example: There are 53 objectives for Mathematics. Meghan has achieved 42 of these objectives. Meghan's percentage of objectives achieved in this period is: (42 ÷ 53) x 100 = |
|
To Academic Year and Assessment Point |
The percentage of objectives that the pupil has been assessed as Achieved or Higher during the second Assessment Period (To). The percentage is calculated by dividing the number of all the objectives where the pupil has been assessed as Achieved or Higher by the total number of objectives for the Subject and Band. This value is then multiplied by 100 to give a percentage: (Number of objectives assessed as Achieved or Higher ÷ Total number of objectives) x 100 For example: There are 39 objectives for Writing. Lauren has achieved 9 of these objectives. Lauren's percentage of objectives achieved in this period is: (9 ÷ 39) x 100 = |
|
Progress |
Progress indicates the change in percentages between the two Assessment Periods. It is calculated by subtracting the percentage of objectives that the pupil has been assessed as Achieved or Higher during the first Assessment Period from the pupil's results in the second Assessment Period: Progress % (C) = In the example above: A = 16.7 B = 22.2 C = B - A Therefore, Joylin's progress = 22.2 - 16.7 = 5.6% Progress is highlighted as follows:
