Comms Hub: What happens to Comms Hub during the academic year rollover?

Comms Hub

Overview

This article explains what happens in Comms Hub during the academic year rollover and what you need to know to keep sending messages without interruption.

How rollover works

Rollover is triggered by your school, not by Juniper Education. How it works depends on which MIS you use:

  1. If you use Juniper Education's MIS, complete the end of year rollup process using the End of Year wizard (for further information, see MIS: End of Year Rollup).
  2. If you use a third-party MIS, carry out your annual rollover in your MIS as normal. Juniper Education detects the updated data when your MIS is synchronised overnight through Wonde sync, and updates your academic year accordingly.

There may be a delay of up to 24 hours before new groups appear after your rollover.

Juniper Education will not change your academic year without first detecting the new data from your MIS.

Key dates

The table below shows what happens at each stage of rollover:

Date What happens
Before 24th July 2026 Comms Hub defaults to 2025 / 2026 groups. If your MIS is already rolled up and 2026 / 2027 groups are available, you can manually switch the academic year filter to 2026 / 2027.
From 24th July 2026 If Juniper has detected your MIS rollover, Comms Hub defaults to 2026 / 2027. You can still switch back to 2026 / 2026 using the academic year filter.
24th July 2026 to 31st August 2026 Both 2026 / 2026 and 2026 / 2027 are accessible. You can send messages against either year using the academic year filter.
31st August 2026 All schools move to 2026 / 2027 if not already. Actions against 2026 / 2026 groups are no longer available from this date.
From 1st September 2026 2026 / 2027 is the only active year. Historical 2026 / 2026 content remains visible for reference.

Sending messages

Comms Hub uses the groups from your school's active academic year. The academic year filter lets you switch between years during the rollover window.

  1. Before 24th July 2026, Comms Hub defaults to 2026 / 2026 groups.
  2. If 2026 / 2027 groups are available because your MIS has been rolled up, you can switch the academic year filter to 2026 / 2027 to send messages using new year and class groups.
  3. From 24th July 2026, Comms Hub defaults to 2026 / 2027 if your rollover has been detected.
  4. Until 31st August 2026, you can send messages against both 2026 / 2026 and 2026 / 2027 groups.
  5. After 31st August 2026, you can no longer send messages against 2026 / 2026 groups.

Scheduling messages

  1. Scheduling is disabled for 2026 / 2026 groups once term has ended. Group membership may change before a scheduled message is sent, which could result in the wrong people receiving it.
  2. Scheduling is available for 2026 / 2027 groups. Switch the academic year filter to 2026 / 2027 to schedule messages for the new term.

Badges, points, and observations

  1. You can create badges, points, and observations against whichever academic year is selected in the academic year filter.
  2. After 31st August 2026, these actions are only available for 2026 / 2027.

Feeds

  1. Content published in Comms Hub is associated with the academic year based on your term dates and the date the item is published.
  2. Content published within 2026 / 2027 term dates will appear against the 2026 / 2027 academic year.

Common questions

  • Yes, your school needs to carry out the annual rollover process in your MIS. Juniper Education detects the updated data when your MIS is synchronised overnight through Wonde sync, and updates your academic year automatically after that. If you're unsure how to do this, contact your MIS provider.
  • Juniper Education detects MIS changes through a nightly sync, so there may be up to 24 hours before new groups appear. If you've rolled your MIS up and it's been more than 24 hours, contact us.
  • Yes, between 24th July 2026 and 31st August 2026 you can switch between 2026 / 2026 and 2026 / 2027 using the academic year filter. After 31st August 2026, only 2026 / 2027 is available for new actions.
  • Any school that hasn't rolled over by 31st August 2026 will be automatically moved to 2026 / 2027 on that date. We recommend completing your MIS rollover as early as possible so that your data is accurate before the new term begins.
  • When the summer term ends, pupil group membership is likely to change before September, for example, when pupils move year groups, leave, or join. Scheduling a message or event using July's groups risks it going to the wrong people. Scheduling is disabled for 2026 / 2026 groups after the summer term ends, but is available for 2026 / 2027 groups.
