Overview

This article explains what happens in Comms Hub during the academic year rollover and what you need to know to keep sending messages without interruption. 

The guidance provided in this article is specifically for those schools who use a third-party MIS and sync to us using Wonde. If you use Juniper Education's MIS (you are not using Wonde to connect your pupil and staff data to Juniper Education), complete the end of year rollup process using the End of Year wizard (for further information, see MIS: End of Year Rollup).

How rollover works

If you use a third-party MIS, carry out your annual rollover in your MIS as normal. We will run a Wonde sync on 3rd August 2026 to update your academic year, regardless of when you complete your rollover. If you haven't rolled over by 3rd August 2026, don't worry - your new groups will come through in the next Wonde sync after you do roll over.

Key dates

The table below shows what happens at each stage of rollover:

Date What happens
16th July 2026 Syncing of pupil data from Wonde will be paused. All other data will continue to sync from Wonde as normal. Comms Hub still show your 2025 / 2026 groups at this point (for example, years, classes, forms and houses), however, any changes made to your pupil data (including groups) in your MIS will not be reflected until 3rd August 2026.
3rd August 2026 All Wonde-synced schools will automatically move into the new academic year (2026 / 2027) in Juniper Education's products. Wonde syncing of data will resume, updating pupils, groups and all related data for the new year. Comms Hub will default to showing 2026 / 2027 groups, and you'll be able to do scheduling and other tasks as normal within it. You will still be able to send messages to 2025 / 2026 groups.
1st September 2026 You can still switch back to view 2025 / 2026 groups using the academic year filter on certain pages, but from this date, you will no longer be able to send messages to 2025 / 2026 groups.

For Wonde-sync schools, we have assigned default term dates of the 1st September to the 31st August for all academic years.

Sending messages

Comms Hub uses the groups from your school's active academic year:

  1. Before 3rd August 2026, Comms Hub defaults to 2025 / 2026 groups.
  2. From 3rd August 2026, Comms Hub defaults to 2026 / 2027, but you can still send messages to 2025 / 2026 groups as needed up until 31st August 2026.
  3. From 1st September 2026, you can no longer send messages using 2025 / 2026 groups.

Scheduling messages

  1. Scheduling is available for 2025 / 2026 groups up until the 31st August 2026 for schools who use a third-party MIS and sync to us using Wonde (as we have assigned default term dates of the 1st September to the 31st August for all academic years)
  2. Scheduling is available for both 2025 / 2026 and 2026 / 2027 groups from the 3rd August 2026 up until the end of 31st August 2026. 
  3. Scheduling is available only for 2026 / 2027 groups from 1st September 2026.

Badges, points, and observations

  1. Up until the 31st August 2026, you can create badges, points, and observations for the 2025 / 2026 academic year groups.
  2. From the 3rd August 2026, these actions will also be available for the 2026 / 2027 academic year groups. The system uses the 2026 / 2027 groups as the defaults. 
  3. From the 1st September 2026, you will only be able to create badges, points, and observations for the 2026 / 2027 academic year groups.

Feeds

  1. Content published up until the 3rd August 2026 will be published against the 2025 / 2026 academic year.
  2. Content published from the 3rd August 2026 will be published against the 2026 / 2027 academic year.

Common questions

  • Yes, your school needs to carry out the annual rollover process in your MIS. If you're unsure of how to rollover your MIS, contact your MIS provider. From the 3rd August 2026, your rolled up groups will show in Comms Hub.
  • Juniper Education detects MIS changes through a nightly sync, so there may be up to 24 hours before new groups appear. If you have rolled up before the 3rd August 2026, the changes you have made will not be visible until 3rd August 2026. After the 3rd August 2026, if it's been more than 24 hours, contact us.
  • Before the 3rd August 2026 you can access the 2025 / 2026 academic year only. After the 3rd August 2026, you can switch between 2025 / 2026 and 2026 / 2027 using the academic year filter. After 31st August 2026, all actions can only be completed for the 2026 / 2027 academic year.
  • It doesn't matter if you have not rolled over by 3rd August 2026. When you do rollover, Wonde sync will rewrite your groups overnight. We recommend completing your MIS rollover as early as possible so that your data is accurate before the new term begins.
