Sonar Tracker: How are percentages calculated in Sonar Tracker's benchmarks?

Sonar Tracker

We understand the importance of transparency, and therefore, we have included the formula that we’ve used below:

Percentage of pupils At or Above in your school = (Number of pupils in each year group at your school, assessed as At or Above ARE / Number of
pupils in each year group in your school) x 100

This is then compared to:

Percentage of pupils At or Above in all schools within the Sonar Tracker dataset =(Number of pupils in each year group in all Sonar Tracker schools, assessed as At or Above
ARE / Number of pupils in each year group in the entire Sonar Tracker dataset) x 100

For example:

  • Example Primary School has 100 pupils in Year 6.
  • 50 pupils were assessed as ‘at’ or ‘above’ ARE.

The calculation is:

(50/100) x 100 = 50%.

The number of schools using Sonar Tracker varies by region, so consider this when drawing local conclusions, as the comparative data set may be small.
