Sisra Analytics: Why does my qualification not have a Value Added (VA) score?

If most of your qualifications have Value Added data, but one or two qualifications do not then the first thing to check is whether the qualification is approved or not. You can do this by going to DATA > KS5 > select cohort > GRADES > Matching and checking your qualifications. In the screenshot below, BTEC Photography is Unapproved but the other qualifications are all approved:

The next steps will depend on whether your qualification is approved or unapproved.

My Qualification is Approved

First you would need to check that both the KS4 APS GCSE and KS4 APS All core baselines have been imported. To check this, you can go to DATA > KS5 > Select Cohort > KS4/EAP > Core Baselines > Core Baselines List. KS4 APS GCSE is needed to calculate VA for A Level and Other Academic qualification types, and KS4 APS All is needed to calculate VA for Applied General and Tech Level qualifications, and so if you only have the KS4 APS GCSE baseline imported then the VA will not be calculated for Applied General and Tech Level qualifications.

If you are missing these baselines, you can go to KS4/EAP > Core Baselines > Import Core Baselines to import a new file that contains all data. We have an article on where to find these core baselines if you need it here: Sisra Analytics: KS5 - Where to find Core Baselines (Admin). You would then need to go to KS4/EAP > Publish KS4/EAP and re-publish your data and then go to GRADES > Publish Grades and re-publish your report.

If you already have both baselines, or importing this does not resolve the issue, you would then need to go to the GRADES > National Data page. Ensure that the correct, most recent VA Data has been selected, or click on 'Edit VA Data' to change this. You will also need to check that your qualifications have automatically linked to the right VA Subjects, as if a QN does not appear on the DfE's data then it will not automatically link. You can see that the Fashion Design AS Level qualification has not automatically linked in the screenshot below:

You can opt to click 'Edit Approved Qualifications' to manually match a qualification to the VA Subject by typing the subject name into the 'VA Data Subject Name' textbox and selecting the most relevant option for this subject. In this instance, I opted for the AS Level sized subject that matches the option automatically linked to the full A Level qualification:

Once you have done this, you would then need to go to GRADES > Publish Grades and re-publish your reports. You can also see our article on more general issues with Value Added here Sisra Analytics: Why is L3 Value Added (VA) not showing in the KS5 reports? (Admin) for more help.

My Qualification is Unapproved

Sisra will not automatically calculate Value Added for any unapproved qualifications, as it will not be an official headline figure. However if you would like to produce VA for internal analysis of unapproved qualifications (available in the Grades reports), then you can follow these steps:

Go to DATA > KS5 > Select Cohort > GRADES > National Data and switch the 'Configure unapproved qualifications' toggle to Yes.

Click on the 'Edit Unapproved Qualifications' button to then manually match your unapproved qualifications to the relevant VA subject, by typing the subject name into the 'VA Data Subject Name' box and selecting the relevant option.

Click 'Save' when you are finished, and then you will just need to go to GRADES > Publish Grades and re-publish your reports. The unapproved qualifications' VA will not show in the Headlines or Value Added reports, as these will only show official figures, but you will be able to view the VA in the Grades Analysis reports.
