Overview
This article explains how to add a Meal Type within Juniper MIS. Meal Types are used when a pupil of staff member's lunchtime meal choices are selected. Meal Types contain the Price charged for the meal, who the meal is available to (Pupils or Staff), the Order in which the meal is displayed when selecting a meal from a list within Juniper MIS, and whether the Meal Type is Active (in use, listed for selection).
Prerequisites
- You must have Account Admin or Account Owner permissions to add a Meal Type.
Instructions
Open Meal Type
From the Juniper MIS:
- Select Manage.
- Select School Meals.
- Select Meal Types.
Add a Meal Type
From All Meal Types:
- Select Create.

In Create Meal Type:
- Enter a name for the Meal Type (this appears in any menus when selecting a Meal Type).
- Enter a Description for the Meal Type.
- Optionally, enter or select any allergy related details (for example, if the meal contains peanuts) in Allergens.
- Enter a Price for the meal.
- Enter an Order number (the higher the number, the lower down the list the meal will appear when selected).
- Check Active to make the Meal Type active (so that it appears in any meal selection menu).

When the Meal Type is made Active, availability information is listed along with price details:
- Optionally, select or enter Available From and Available Until dates to specify when the meal is available, such as a Christmas Lunch during the last week of the Autumn term. If the meal is always available, these fields can be left blank.
- To make the meal available to pupils, toggle Activate for Pupils on and enter a Pupil Price.
- To make the meal available to staff members, toggle Activate for Staff on and enter a Staff Price.
- Select Save.
