How do I use Map Maker to create Units of Learning?

This section of Sonar Curriculum allows staff to create their own, bespoke Units of Learning using the Sonar Curriculum standardised objectives.

How to Create Your Units of Learning

  • Hover over the Map Maker option in the Navigation (top right)
  • Select Map Maker
  • Select your year group, for example, Year 1.
  • Select Units of Learning.
  • Enter your unit title (e.g. Holidays) in the text box labelled Your Map Name.
  • Select the Synopsis text box and enter your own synopsis for this unit. As required, you can copy and paste text from other documents.
  • The Objectives tab is displayed on the left. Select the subjects you are covering in the unit. The strands will drop down. These are colour-coded to match the Subject Overviews.
  • Select the strand and you will see all the standardised objectives for your selected year group.
  • Select an objective to add it to your map. When selected, it will move to the right of your screen.
If you have selected one by mistake, select it from the right of your window and it will be removed from your map.
  • When all objectives are selected, you can write a learning sequence for each curriculum area by selecting Learning Sequences.
  • Select a curriculum area and enter your text. Copy and paste text from other documents as required.
  • Select Save Map when your Unit of Learning is set up.

After saving your work, generate and download a PDF using the button at the bottom of the window.

Select My Units of Learning under the Map Maker tab in the Navigation bar to update / edit / delete the map. Maps are arranged by year group.
