Comms Hub: How do I award badges from my whiteboard in class?

Awards & Activities, Comms Hub

Overview

This article explains how to award badges to one or more pupils within your class from the Whiteboard View

This approach for awarding badges can be a powerful motivator for some pupils, particularly those who like public recognition of their achievements.

To save time, when working in the Comms Hub Home page / Dashboard and you have a single class assigned to you, select Class, then proceed to Step 4 of the instructions below. If you have multiple classes assigned to you, select Classes, then proceed to Step 3:

Instructions

From within Comms Hub:

  1. Select Interactions.
  2. Select Classes.
  3. Locate and select your Class.
  4. From the Class, select Launch Whiteboard View:
  5. From the Whiteboard View, select one or more pupils whom you want to award a badge to. To select all pupils, check Select All. Selected pupils are highlighted using a dark purple border:

Where a pupil has been selected by mistake, reselect them to deselect them.

  6. Select Award Badge:
  7. From Award Badge, optionally:
    1. Check Generate Certificate, if you want to generate a PDF file containing customised certificates for each pupil you award the badge to.

This option is only available if approvals are set to automatic (see Comms Hub: How do I enable / disable automatic approval of badges?)

    2. Enter a Summary explaining why you are awarding the badge.
    3. Select a Subject.
    4. Upload up to 10 supporting files. These can be PNG, JPG, GIF files up to 10MB each. Videos can be MP4 or MOV files, up to 1GB each.
    5. Select a badge.
  8. When completed, select Save.

Outcome

The badge award is sent for approval / awarded to the pupils that you selected (depending on how your system is set up). A message confirming this is displayed:

If you chose to create personalised certificates for those pupils to whom you've awarded badges, these will be generated and saved to the Downloads folder on your device as a single PDF file. The certificate comprises an image of the badge, it's name, the name of the pupil, the comment that you entered, your name, the school's name and the date that the badge was awarded. These can be viewed and printed as required:
