Recognising that Finance Officers in a school/academy need a diverse range of financial knowledge, including internal controls, financial administration and reporting requirements, this series of modules provides the information needed to understand School/Academy finance and administration.
The course comprises the following Essential Finance Modules:

Module 1 - Roles & Responsibilities, Financial Regulations. This module covers the roles and responsibilities of finance staff and governors/trustees; how schools are funded and the income
timetable; and understanding the financial framework. -
Module 2 - Internal Controls, Reporting Requirements. This module covers financial regulations and internal controls; understanding business interests and related parties; and budget monitoring
requirements to the governors/trustees. -
Module 3 - Monthly Reporting, Variances, Cashflow Forecast. This module covers monthly financial reporting, reconciliation of funding to the budget and variances, bank reconciliations and
cashflows projections, including a demonstration of a series of tools. - Module 4 - Control Accounts, Estimated Carry Forward, Trading Accounts. This module covers the information that should be reported monthly, how, when and to whom. This will include reporting on control accounts, estimating carry forwards, and trading accounts with business plans.
- Module 5 - Annual Reporting, Year-end accruals and Processes. This module covers reporting on Capital projects, budget holder reports, annual reporting including budget and forward plans, and year-end accruals and processes.

Module 6 - Benchmarking, SFVS / SRMSAC. This module covers benchmarking, why it is
important, how it's done and interpreting the results; and completing the finance information
for SFVS/SRMSAC return.
