Overview
Within any page of content, you can create hyperlinks from images or text. These hyperlinks could open up an email, link to a page within the website, an external website or a file document. With the addition of anchor tags, you could also use hyperlinks to jump down the same page to a block of text.
Email Hyperlink
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create the hyperlink.
- Highlight the text to use for the hyperlink.
- Select the Edit tab.
- Select the Link icon to open the Link Info window:
- Select the Link Type as E-mail:
- Enter the recipients' email address in E-Mail Address.
- Optionally, enter a default email subject line in the Message Subject textbox. This might be useful to help track where your emails are coming from. For example, the Message Subject could read Website Enquiry.
- Optionally, enter some text to be added to the email body by default into the Message Body textbox.
- Select OK to close the Link window.
Internal Hyperlink
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create the hyperlink.
- Highlight the text to use for the hyperlink.
- Select the Edit tab.
- Select the Link icon to open the Link Info window:
- Select the Link Type as Internal Link:
- The Internal Link window will appear, which contains a sitemap view of your website. Select the small triangle icon to the left of each page to locate the page you would like to link to:
- Select the page. You will return to the Link Info window.
- Select OK to close the Link window.
Moving items or pages within Sitemap View will not affect any existing links. The links will continue to work as expected.
External Hyperlink
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create the hyperlink.
- Highlight the text to use for the hyperlink.
- Select the Edit tab.
- Select the Link icon to open the Link Info window:
- Select the Link Type as URL:
- Leave the Protocol set to http:// for standard web pages. There might be times when you are linking to websites which have a Security Certificate. In this instance, set the Protocol to https://.
- Enter the website address you are linking to in URL.
- When linking to an external resource, it's recommended to open the link in a new tab. Select the Target tab:
- Select the Target as New Window (_blank).
- Select OK to close the Link window.
Document Hyperlink
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create the hyperlink.
- Highlight the text to use for the hyperlink.
- Select the Edit tab.
- Select the Link icon to open the Link Info window:
- Select the Link Type as URL:
- Select Browse Server to open your website's File Manager:
- If the document you require has already been uploaded, navigate to it within your File Manager. Select the document. The File Manager window will close and return you to the Link window.
- If the document hasn't yet been uploaded to the File Manager, navigate to the relevant folder, select Upload File and upload your file. When the upload is complete, select the newly uploaded document. The File Manager window will close and return you to the Link window.
- Select OK to close the Link window.
Anchor Tag Hyperlink
This guide assumes you have already created your Anchor Tag and are now ready to create the link.
- Select the area of the website where you would like to create an Anchor Tag. This is where your anchor tag hyperlink navigates to when selected by a user.
- Select the Anchor icon from the Edit tab:
- The Anchor Properties window will appear:
- Type a name for your Anchor Tag in the Anchor Name field.
- Select OK.

TIPS:

- If you are familiar with HTML5 and CSS3, you can also link By Element Id to link to an HTML element on the page.
- If you would like to link to an anchor on another page on your site, you can do so by adding #anchorname to the end of the URL.
Google Document Hyperlink
This option will only be available if your school website administrator has set up the Google Drive Integration within your website.
- Navigate to the area of the website where you would like to create the hyperlink.
- Highlight the text to use for the hyperlink.
- Select the Edit tab.
- Select the Link icon to open the Link Info window:
- Select the Link Type as URL:
- Select Browse Server:
- Select Google Drive.
- Navigate through the Google Drive folder to locate the file to link to. The Google Drive folder shows any shared drives that have been linked to the site.
- Select the document. The File Manager window will close and return you to the Link window.
- Select OK to close the Link window.
A note on restricted files
When selecting your document, some may be marked with a padlock icon. They are restricted files that are not set to be shared publicly.
If you select a restricted file you are warned that the permissions must be changed to make the file publicly accessible:

- As appropriate, select Go to file to view the file and update its permissions (if you have access to the Shared Google Drive.
- If the file is not public, it can still be embedded, but visitors must be logged in to access the files. Select Insert link to do this.
Saving your changes
Select Save on the Edit tab and choose the desired save option:

Save & Publish
- If you see this option, you can save and publish your item immediately to make it live on the website.
- If you have purchased our School News Mobile App, Administrators or Publishers can select the option to send a notification to subscribed app users.

Save Draft
- This will allow you to save your item without publishing it, and return to continue editing via Drafts on the Home tab

Send for Approval
- This option enables you to send an item to be reviewed and approved by either an Administrator or Publisher. Once approved this item will be made live on the site.
