Juniper Websites: Text Formatting Tools

The content editing toolbar in the CMS is designed to be intuitive and user friendly. You will notice that the text editing tools available are similar to those found in many other products you use on a daily basis.

Bold, Italic & Underline

In the editor toolbar, you will find options to make text bold italic or underlined.  Simply select the text you want to format and select the appropriate button on the toolbar.  You can also use the standard shortcuts for these formatting options:

  • Bold: CTRL + B.
  • Italic: CTRL + I.
  • Underline: CTRL + U.

Superscript

This is useful for dates in the format 15th.  Highlight the text you want to format and select the Superscript icon on the editor toolbar.

Remove Format (Clear Formatting)

Sometimes your formatting may not look the way you want it to, especially when copying in from another source.  Clearing the formatting lets you remove the styling, and then you can use the other tools to re-format the text the way you require.  Highlight the text you wish to clear the formatting for and select the Remove Format icon on the toolbar.

Bullets & Numbered Lists

Lists are a great way to make your content clear and easy to understand.  They also have the added benefit of making your content more accessible, as they can be easily identified and read by screen readers.  To use bullets and numbering select some text or select the content area where you would like to add a list, and select either the Insert/Remove Bulleted List or Insert/Remove Numbered List icon from the toolbar.

Text Alignment

By default the text on your site will be set to be justified to the left.  If you would prefer a section of text to be aligned differently, select the text and choose your preferred option from the edit toolbar.

Block Quote

Highlighting text, then clicking the Block Quote tool will format the text as a quotation.  Depending on the style set in your site the quote will include quotation marks, and may be styled to match your theme.

Heading Styles

Text styles are important tools that help make sections of your content stand out. They are styled to match your website so everything stays looking consistent.  Additionally, they allow your visitors to easily identify the content they are interested in.  They are particularly important for accessibility, as screen readers use them to skip through content.

Under the Style Dropdown, you will be able to select from

  • Normal (standard paragraph format).
  • Heading 2.
  • Heading 3.
  • Heading 4.
  • Heading 5.

Heading 1 isn't included as this is reserved for your site's page titles.
