Sisra Analytics: KS5 - How are Average Grade Boundaries used in reports?

This article explains how Average Grade Boundaries are used within reports in Sisra Analytics.

The point boundaries used to calculate the Display Grades As equivalents / Average Grade are as follows, compiled from the DfE’s guidance:

Performance Cohort Grade Average Points Boundaries
A Level and Academic
(L3 A*-E Grades)
A*= 58.34 - 60.00
A*- 55.00 - 58.33
A+ 51.67 - 54.99
A= 48.34 - 51.66
A- 45.00 - 48.33
B+ 41.67 - 44.99
B= 38.34 - 41.66
B- 35.00 - 38.33
C+ 31.67 - 34.99
C= 28.34 - 31.66
C- 25.00 - 28.33
D+ 21.67 - 24.99
D= 18.34 - 21.66
D- 15.00 - 18.33
E+ 11.67 - 14.99
E= 8.34 - 11.66
E- 5.00 - 8.33
U Below 5.00

Display Grades As uses the whole boundary for the grade, for example, in the table above, when using the L3 A*-E Grades display option, a B grade has a boundary of 35 to 45 points. Any grades with points between these values would be counted in the B column.

The type of Average Grade displayed for Level 3 qualifications is controlled using the Display Grades As setting:

  • L3 A*-E Grades or L3 DMP Grades will use the selected type for all Level 3 qualifications
  • Actual Grades will use the type associated with each qualification's performance cohort (A Level and Academic – L3 A*-E Grades; Applied General and Tech Level – L3 DMP Grades; and Tech CertL2 Tech Cert Grades).
