Juniper Websites: Creating a photo album

Overview

Create a photo album to showcase photographs from an event, and share artwork or highlights from a trip. Photo images can be quickly uploaded in bulk (up to 99 in an album) and viewed individually or as a slideshow by visitors to your site.    

You will need to create a photo gallery before you can add a photo album.

Creating a photo album

  1. Navigate to the Gallery where you would like to create a photo album.
  2. Select Album from the Create tab:
  3. A blank photo album is created. Enter a name and description for the album by overtyping the existing content:
  4. Before saving, you must upload at least one image to the photo album. Select Upload Images. 
  5. Locate and select between 1 and 99 images to upload into the photo album.
  6. Select Open to add the images to your photo album:
  7. Optionally, select an image and drag-and-drop it to reorder the images.
  8. Optionally:
    1. Select an image as the thumbnail for the album. By default, the first image uploaded will be displayed as the thumbnail.
    2. Rotate the image counter clockwise.
    3. Rotate the image clockwise.
    4. Add a title and description for each image.
      (this is vital to ensure your images are accessible to visitors accessing your site with a screen reader)
    5. Delete any images you have accidentally added to the Photo Album. 
  9. Select Save to save your Photo Album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

Uploading images

From a new or existing photo album, drag-and-drop images stored on your device onto Upload Images

Or:

  1. Select Upload Images. A window opens displaying the files on your device.
  2. Locate and select between 1 and 99 images to upload into the photo album.
  3. Select Open to add the images to your photo album.
  4. Select Save to save your photo album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

Reorder images

From within your photo album:

  1. Select the image that you want to move.
  2. Drag the image to its new position within the photo album.
  3. Select Save to save your photo album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

You can only re-order images within the same photo album.  Photo images cannot be dragged to another photo album.

Set a thumbnail image​​​​​​​

From within your photo album:

  1. Locate the photo image you want to use as the thumbnail image.
  2. Select the thumbnail icon:
  3. Select Save to save your photo album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

From the Edit tab, the Thumbnail icon will update to reflect the change.

Rotate an image​​​​​​​

From within your photo album, select the image whose orientation you want to change:

  1. Select either of the rotate icons until it is the correct way up:
  2. Select Save to save your photo album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

Setting a title and description for a photo image

From within your photo album, select the image whose details you want to update:
(this is vital to ensure your images are accessible to visitors accessing your site with a screen reader)

  1. Select the information icon at the top of the image:
  2. When prompted, enter the Image Title and Image Description:
  3. Select the information icon at the top of the image again to close the information view:
  4. Select Save to save your photo album (see Juniper Websites: What do the different save options mean?).

When you select the information icon, the titles and descriptions for all images are displayed. You can update the details for one or more images from this view, rather than repeating Steps 1 to 3 above for each image.

Deleting a photo image

From within your photo album, locate the image you want to delete and select the delete icon:

You will not be prompted to confirm the deletion.

Setting the photo album date

To amend the date for your photo albums that are displayed on the album thumbnail in the photo gallery (and in turn affect the order photo albums are displayed):

  1. Select Date from the Edit tab:

  2. Use the date picker to select the Display Date

Setting the photo album archive and publish dates

The archive option allows you to remove an item, so that is no longer publicly accessible on your website, without permanently deleting it. The page can then be edited and re-published later on.  You can also use these features to archive or publish an item on a future date.  

Schedule an item to publish or archive

  1. Select Archiving from the Edit tab.
  2. To archive the item immediately, select Archive now or, to archive on a future date, select the calendar icon or type a date in DD/MM/YYYY format to schedule it.  You can also set a time if required.
  3. To publish the item immediately, select Publish now or, to publish on a future date, select the calendar icon or type a date in DD/MM/YYYY format.  You can also set a time if required.

Which items can be archived?

These items can be archived These items cannot be archived
  • Page.
  • Photo Album.
  • News Article.
  • Blog Post.
  • Photo Gallery.
  • Form.
  • News Category.
  • Blog Category.
  • Course Category.

 

Sharing to social media

If the social media sharing feature has been set up by your site administrator, you will be able to share your album to your social feed(s) at the same time as publishing.  View the Share to Social Media article to learn how to do this.
