Overview
This guide explains how to edit the images displayed at the top of your pages, known as the slideshow. You can update either the default inner page slides, or the photos used for a specific page, or section of your website.
How your website was originally set up determines how you edit your slideshow. If your website has the Homepage Slideshow option in the Website tab under Custom Data, visit Juniper Websites: Editing a Custom Homepage Slideshow to learn how to manage your slideshow. If your website does not have this option, follow the instructions below.
Prerequisites
You must be an Administrator to edit slideshow images.
Uploading slideshow images
Follow these instructions to upload one or more slideshow images to be used across all your pages:
- Select File Manager from the Home tab.
- Select Images.
- Select Slideshow:
- Either:
- Drag and drop one or more files from your device into the File Manager window.
- Or within the File Manager select Upload File and choose the file(s) you want to upload.
- Select Open to upload the selected file(s) to the File Manager.
There is usually a 5MB file size limit per file when uploading files to File Manager. We compress the images you upload, but please consider their size as it affects page loading speed and data usage. Many tools are available to resize your images before uploading.
Editing slideshows for specific pages or sections
Follow these steps to edit the slideshows displayed in specific pages or sections:
- Navigate to the page where you want to change the slideshow image.
- Locate the slideshow image on the page and roll over the information icon to display a tooltip indicating the folder where images for the page are stored:
- Note the folder where the slideshow images are stored.
In this example, it's Images > slideshow > page > 12:If the tooltip is missing, contact us to enable it.
- Select File Manager from the Home tab.
- Navigate to the folder where the slideshow images are stored. Create the necessary folder(s) if they don't exist. In this example, the folder page and its sub-folder 12 are created:
- Right-click on the slideshow folder.
- Select Create.
- Enter the folder name pages.
- Click elsewhere on the page.
- Right-click on the newly created pages folder.
- Select Create.
- Enter the folder name 12.
- Click elsewhere on the page. If custom folders have not been created, for example, 12 above, all pages will use the images uploaded to the main slideshow folder.
- Select the folder where you want to save your new slideshow image(s).
- Either:
- Drag and drop one or more images from your device into the File Manager window to display them in your slideshow.
- Or within the File Manager select Upload File and choose the file(s) you want to upload and display in your slideshow
- Select Open to upload the selected file(s) to the File Manager.
Any images you upload into the numbered folder will be displayed on the corresponding page. Any sub-pages will inherit the same slideshow images unless you also create additional specific folders for those pages.
When selecting images, consider which ones are suitable. Remember, the area they have to fit into is very long and narrow on a computer. Choose images that when cropped to fit, will still look great! For example, portrait photos may be difficult to crop, and images when your subject is very zoomed in may look out of place. When on other devices, the dimensions will change, so you need to make sure the central portion of the image contains the focus.
Cropping the slideshow images
To crop an image in File Manager:
- Locate the image.
- Select the Crop icon from the small toolbar when you hover over the image.
- Select the area that you want to display using the dashed box. The dashed outline will turn green when you have selected an appropriately sized part of the image.
- After selecting the area you want to display, select the Crop tab.
When you crop an image in Juniper Websites the change is permanent. Any changes you make cannot be reverted. Have a backup of your image on your device before cropping.
Deleting an image from the slideshow
You may want to download a copy of the image to your device before you delete it in case you need to reuse the image in the future / revert your changes.
To delete a slideshow image:
- Locate the image in File Manager.
- Roll your mouse over the image and select the delete icon:
- When prompted, select Delete to confirm the deletion:
Any changes you make will update the slides instantly but it may take a little while before they appear, due to page caching.
