  • Updated

Welcome to our step by step guide for editing your home page within your Primarysite Website.

In this guide we will cover:

  • What can I edit on my home page and how

This document will help you achieve all this in an easy step by step process. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

As standard a super user or anyone under the office role type will have access to edit the home page. We can amend the permissions for homepage editing should you wish, please give us a call to do this.

Getting Started

Firstly, you will need to log into your website. This may be done by either clicking a padlock icon or it could be that the words ‘log in’ are situated on the homepage, either in a corner or at the bottom of the page.

A log in screen will then appear, for your details.

What Can I Edit in my Home Page and How?

Your editable home page features will very much depend on the design and style of your website and not all websites will have each of the below elements incorporated into its design. Should you not see an editable field for any of the below in your ‘home page edit’ area, this will be because your website design does not have these incorporated.

Below is a list of the most common elements that you will be able to edit through the ‘edit home page’ area shown above, should you have these incorporated in your website design.

Scrolling Banner

Your scrolling banner can be used for short, sharp messages that will sit scrolling along the home page of your website. To add and edit text to this area, you will need to add your message to the free text field in the ‘edit home page’ area and save.

For further information on how to edit your scrolling banner, please see our ‘How to edit your scrolling banner within your website’ guide.

Welcome Message

You may have an editable welcome or Head Teacher’s welcome message on your website homepage which you would like to regularly update. This can be done by removing any existing messages from the free text field under the ‘home text’ heading and typing in your new message.

Click the blue ‘save’ button to then publish your new message to the website homepage.

Telephone Number and Email Address

Your website home page may display your school’s telephone number and email address, as a quick find for parents. Should your school details ever change, you will have the ability to update this information in the ‘edit home page’ area.

To do this, remove your existing information from the free text fields for either the telephone number and/or email address and type the new details.

Click the blue ‘save’ button to then publish your updated details to the website homepage.

House Points

Some schools use house points to show and recognise achievement, this will display a log of house points on their website homepage. The house points will be fully editable through the ‘edit home page’ area. This can be done by removing any existing points from the free text field under each of the house names, should these be in place already and typing in your new points for that house.

Click the blue ‘save’ button to then publish your updated house point detail to the website homepage.

Attendance Log

Attendance may play a big part of your school’s identity and what better way to show this than with an attendance log on the home page of your website. To edit your percentages, you can do so through the ‘edit home page’ area. This can be done by removing any existing percentages from the free text field under each of the class/key stage/year group names, should these be in place already, type in your new percentages for that class/key stage or year group. Please note you may also just display your attendance on a whole school basis as such you will only see the one text field for this percentage.

Click the blue ‘save’ button to then publish your updated attendance percentages to the website homepage.

Twitter and Facebook Links

In the age of social media, you may have your school’s Facebook or Twitter incorporated into your home page design as either a clickable link or a feed.

You will have the ability to add your own Facebook and Twitter handles into the ‘edit home page’ area of your website, so should you ever change your accounts these can easily be updated to reflect the change.

Your Twitter handle can be located on your Twitter account itself and starts with the @ symbol. Type in your handle excluding the @ into the below free text field when editing to set this up.

To connect your Facebook account to the home page link or feed, you will need to place your Facebook handle into the free text field in the same way you would your Twitter. Your Facebook handle can be found by going to your Facebook account/page and taking the name after the forward slash within the website address field.

You will then be taken to your ‘manage slideshow’ area, where you will have the option to add and delete images clicking the relevant yellow button.

Clicking ‘add images’ will take you to the file uploader to allow you to choose your files from your saved area within your PC/device.

Click the blue ‘save’ button and click the blue ‘save’ button again, to publish the images into your home page slideshow.
